Agreed! having a degree from Harvard doesn't mean squat to me. I have Harvard grads on my team at work that are very ignorant on many topics.
no because the limitations of natural gas are only exceeded (greatly) by crappy batteries. size/weight compared to energy stored for batteries is terrible. Plus a CNG tank doesn't cost 10 grand to change, and making it, recycling it doesn't pollute even worse than CO2
I'm going to be one of 700 people in the US to have one of these next month http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicles/1series/activee/2011/showroom/index.html The BMW ActiveE is a demonstration electric car based on the BMW 1 Series small family cars. It is the second vehicle after the MINI E to be developed under BMW Group’s Project i. The electric drive system is the latest addition to BMW’s EfficientDynamics programme.[1] The four-seater, rear-wheel drive ActiveE was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2010.[1] Deliveries of the ActiveE for field testing in the U.S. began in January 2012, after the Mini E trial ended.[2] A total of 1,100 vehicles will participate in the program worldwide, and 700 will be allocated for the U.S. trial.[3] Participants in the Mini E trial will have priority to lease the new electric car.[4] Production began at BMW's Leipzig plant in July 2011.[5]
What do you suggest doing with our surplus of natural gas to: 1. Be "Greener" 2. Distance ourself from foreign oil 3. Find demand for the oversupply

To your earlier point, I know very little about the engineering behind natural gas vehicles but when I was in India a couple of years ago, I saw plenty of them driving around. They already have the infrastructure built up in major cities. You can now freely buy natural gas cars or you can retrofit your car with a natural gas tank. This of course makes total sense since India and Pakistan are both huge oil and gas importers so diversifying your supply by introducing natural gas vehicles makes total sense. (I believe both countries are the largest users of natural gas vehicles in the world right now) There's a clear inertia to natural gas cars here because unlike places like India and Pakistan, no one is really pushing for state spending on the infrastructure necessary to make natural gas vehicles viable. But I'm not buying that there are some massive engineering hurdles that prevent this from happening. CNG vehicles already exist in large quantities.
"Hey maw, they say that up North they got these big metal horses that run on fire n' water. Buncha hooey, I say."

Always good to remember as was brought up before. Oil production decreased under Bush, and has gone up under Obama. Amazing!
So you are unable to provide any sort of refutation of those facts. I didn't expect anything different.
bwaaahahaha you can't call a bbs stallion like myself out like that your facts were irrelevant to the discussion try harder
In a thread dealing with oil production (the title is Drill Baby Drill) talking about oil production is completely relevant. Though it isn't surprising that you don't understand that.
http://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/index.cfm?page=electricity_in_the_united_states Natural Gas accounts for about 35% of Texas' electricital generation. Electric cars for everyone is a pipe dream at this time. 50 years from now could be a different story. However, it would take the current generation of fresh college grads to convince its present leadership to shift policy in that direction. Socioeconomic factors affect how people feel about alternatives. And it wouldn't be cheap or easy. Here is what it would look like to replace present global oil consumption. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cubic_mile_of_oil
