I wouldn't be opposed to trading lowry, but we better be getting something besides just Gasol or I would be livid.
The Lakers have nothing to give besides Gasol (they have Kobe and Bynum, but they are not "throw ins").
To me, a Pau trade that make seanse would be one involving Boston with Rajon Rondo going to the Lakers. Something like the following: http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2012/02/23/are_mitt_romney_and_ron_paul_in_cahoots Gasol and Chris Wilcox and/or Keyon Dooling (salary fillers) to the Rockets Rondo and Scola to the Lakers Martin, Dragic, Morris, NY 1st Round pick, and maybe some other pieces (Llull, Motiejunas, etc) to Boston. Works out salary-wise. The Lakers gets a star PG along with a capable Gasol fill-in for the salary they are paying Gasol. The Rockets gets a major upgrade at PF/C, free up minutes for Courtney Lee and maybe Budinger or Terrence Williams at the wing positions. Boston gets some valuabel pieces for Rondo, around whom they don't really want to rebuild around. They can either add pieces with their cap room and make another run around Pierce or trade away Pierce and Martin to rebuild.
Carl, that's way too much to give up for Gasol. I'm sorry, but I'm just not 100% sold on Gasol even being worth the original Martin + Scola + Dragic deal, let alone adding in a first round pick and Morris and other stuff. Maybe, maybe it would be worth it for the originally proposed, Scola + Martin + Dragic with absolutely nothing else in the deal. That is the maximum Morey should offer for Pau.
I agree Boston makes a lot of sense as a 3rd partner, but adding additional assets (outside of bench players not currently in the rotation) to the Martin, Scola & Dragic package is a bad deal. DMo, Llull, and our NY 1st shouldn't be on the table if Pau is big return...
Agree, the original trade was only worth making if we had a lock on Nene. Pau just isn't worth what the Lakers appear to be asking. Why give them another championship and set us back with an aging elite player?
if properly motivated, i think pao has quite a few more years of elite play. his size and skillset is unique. i've never foind myself rooting for the dude as he seems lika a douche, but he is a very good player. far better than anyone on our team.
The Lakers with Kobe, Bynum, Martin, Scola and trash are nowhere near another championship. Nowhere near.
a) Yes, they would be. They're a championship contender now and they still would be with that lineup b) The Lakers wouldn't be getting Martin in any potential trade. They have no need for him. They'd be looking to get an above average PG in a three team deal.
I was thinking the same thing....I hate that we are just giving away players in these "proposed trades".In my opinion we shouldnt give the Lakers anything other than Dragic and Scola...If they dont want that kick rocks!! We are not the one (the ROckets) in a bind money wise like L.A. is next year...The Lakers have only 2 choices least we forget...Trade him (which they will do) or keep him and face the monetary consequences in the near future and last I heard MONEY TALKS AND B.S. WALKS... AND ANYTHING OTHER THAN DRAGIC/SCOLA AND MAYBE A PICK IS STUPID ON OUR PART...
1. I think the "additional pieces" question is rather peripheral to the main part of the trade. Basically, you need to give up enough to entice Boston without stripping down the Rockets too much. 2. I don't think just KMart, Scola and Dragic (and maybe along with a couple of the additonal pieces I mentioned) is too much to give up for Gasol, given the circumstances. Remember (1) the Rockets have a capable Courtney Lee to take many of KMart's minutes, and Budigner or Terrence Williams can fill in some of Lee's minutes, (2) the Rocket's won't miss Scola one bit since they'll have Pau, and will still have Patterson (3) the Rockets would clear up some additional cap room to, for example, re-sign Courtney Lee (a restricted FA) and still make a play for a significant FA in the summer, (4) Goran Dragic (who they will miss for the remainder of the season) is an UNRESTRICTED FA, and would be relatively expensive to retain. They have guys currently out of the rotation and guys who will/may join the team next year (unless traded) who probably deserve more minute than they are getting right now. So, giving up multiple pieces isn't as bad a deal as it would be for a team in a different situation. 3. That said, I wouldn't give away all of their assets in this trade, but it will have to be enough to convince Boston to give up Rondo. I am speculating that in addition to Dragic, Martin and Scola, they will need to give up two of the 4 possible addional assets I mentioned (Llull, Motiejunas, NY pick, and Morris).
Ainge is far less in love with Rondo than your trade scenario makes out. You mentioned yourself, Ainge doesn't want to rebuild around Rondo; so why give him so much for the guy? I think cap space and a suitable replacement for Rondo is the direction Ainge is going, which, unfortunately, means giving up Lowry or Llull and making the salaries match up otherwise. Lowry would be the more obvious candidate, but I'd only go that route if Gasol's presence on the Rockets can convince his native Spaniard Llull to come on over next year. Believe me, I'd rather say bye-bye to Martin than to Lowry, too. Lowry and Gasol would make a great combo.
Well we are overachieving with our players. They are the one in the bind. They need the deal to sign a player in the offseason and get multiple players for Gasol. Rockets do not need Gasol. They can move forward with what they got and add to it. So they really cant ask for Lowry or the other deal which asks for Martin, Scola, Dragic, and a first round pick. Rockets just do not need a struggling older Gasol that much. They have the same record as the Lakers do.
Yoyo, There was no original deal with LA that involved those players for Gasol. The original trade involved those players going to New Orleans and Chris Paul coming to LA. The Lakers were NEVER interested in Martin or Scola or Dragic in a deal for Gasol. That is a fantasy manufactured here by Rocket fans. The Lakers were interested in Chris Paul and they may now have interest in Kyle Lowery but they were never interested in those other players in exchange for Gasol.
cant believe we're still pursuing Gasoft. The ostrich man clearly doesnt want to even play here. He would just be BSing around on the court for the checks...
This! Rocket fans should probably relax because this likely won't get done but not for the reasons they think. Kupchak won't trade Gasol to Houston for Lowry unless he comes with other young assets like Patterson and possibly Courtney Lee. Younger assets on better contracts that would make the Lakers a more rounded team is what the Laker FO would demand from this deal. I doubt that Morey would reach that far to obtain Pau and that would end it.
