you can get a $10k tax credit for buying a $100k Tesla Model X. again, subsidizing the rich, while cutting funding for DC school vouchers that go to disadvantaged inner city youth. why does Obama hate poor black kids?
IIRC, there are 3 1/2 - 4 times as many rigs drilling for oil as there were when Obama took office. Yeah, Obama's really "threatening the industry at every turn." It kind of reminds me of how the NRA was saying that the reason Obama hasn't restricted any gun rights was because he was lulling them into a false sense of security so he could then take away their gun rights. Gun rights haven't been restricted because Obama hates guns. Domestic oil and gas production is up because Obama is actively destroying the industry.
Agreed that he's clueless when it comes to energy policy. I still don't get why EVERYBODY isn't getting behind cars powered by natural gas. We have such a surplus in natural gas production that we can't even build the infrastructure fast enough to transport and store it. We have enough of it, we wouldn't need to rely on a-hole nations for it and we have the workforce that could create a new generation of cars.
I agree that natural gas powered cars sound good -- I haven't seen the economics of it, however -- I'd like to examine those and then the government contribution required.
I'm not sure how I feel about the whole natural gas boom. http://www.gaslandthemovie.com/ I'm sure there's another side to this story, but I'm still looking for it.
Of course Solyndra not withstanding the money spent on solar and alternative energy was enormously successful. It's no surprise that you know a publicized bad example but have no clue of the whole program and it's success.
Donny, I'd be glad to get together for a rockets game/beer again and talk about how drilling/frac'ing are done and how all geologists and engineers laugh at this movie. Perhaps I will give Iris a call.
domestic production has increase under obama. 99% of the posters in this thread have no idea what they are talking about. big oil companines understand oil is running out. they're the biggest investors in alternative energy for their future as well
oh come on. That stat does not tell the full story and you know it. The question is where COULD it have been, if Obama was more supporting of the domestic oil industry.
Yes, and oil production under Bush went down. Under Obama oil production has gone up. http://www.enviroknow.com/2011/05/15/oil-production-up-under-obama/
Tank size is extremely large for passenger cars compared to propane or gasoline because it won't easily go liquid. PSI exceeds 3000 psi which is very high making it inefficient to compress it that much and requires strong tanks to hold it especially in case of an accident.
Yes, the President of the United States, Harvard Juris Doctor Magna c*m Laude who can call on any and all experts in any field, at any time and gets briefed every day from the all the information gleaned from the entire federal system is.... ignorant.
I didn't say the technology was perfected. But from a supply side aspect, it would be the smart choice. Looks like someone read my mind: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120223/POLITICS03/202230436/1361/U.S.-launching-program-focusing-on-natural-gas-powered-cars U.S. launching program focusing on natural gas-powered cars Washington — President Barack Obama said gas prices will "probably keep going up" as worldwide demand for cars and oil continues to rise. At a speech at the University of Miami, Obama also announced a small $30 million Energy Department research grant to boost the number of vehicles running on natural gas — and he touted the government's new fuel standards that will nearly double the efficiency of cars and trucks by 2025. "We're launching a program that will bring together the nation's best scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs to figure out how more cars can be powered by natural gas — a fuel that's cleaner, cheaper and more abundant than oil," Obama said. Currently, only Honda Motor Co. sells a compressed natural gas passenger car in the United States — the Honda Civic GX. Chrysler has said it plans to bring CNG vehicles to the United States and General Motors Co. sells CNG powered Chevrolet Express vans. Gasoline prices have jumped 11 percent to $3.59 a gallon since mid-December. The Energy Department program will "support teams focused on overcoming these barriers by developing innovative, low-cost natural gas storage technologies and methods to lower pressure in vehicle tanks and help enable the widespread adoption of natural gas." Obama cited the growing number of vehicles in China — the world's fastest growing auto market — as a reason that the U.S. can't drill more oil to reduce long-term oil prices. "Over the long-term, the biggest reason oil prices will rise is growing demand in countries like China, India, and Brazil. Just think — in five years, the number of cars on the road in China more than tripled. Nearly 10 million were added in 2010 alone. Ten million cars in one year — think about how much oil that requires. And those numbers will only get bigger over time," Obama said. "So what does this mean for America? It means that anyone who tells you we can drill our way out of this problem doesn't know what they're talking about — or isn't telling you the truth." Newt Gingrich says by intensifiying drilling — especially in North Dakota — the United Sates could reduce gasoline prices to $2.50 a gallon. He also called this week for ending fuel efficiency standards. Obama touted the agreement reached with major automakers to nearly double fuel efficiency standards to 54.5 mpg by 2025 — a move that will add about $2,000 to the cost of an average vehicle, or $157 billion for the industry, the Obama administration estimates. "That means you'll be able to fill up your car every two weeks instead of every week — something that, over time, will save the typical family more than $8,000 at the pump. And it means this country will reduce our oil consumption by more than 2 million barrels a day," Obama said. Obama rejected the idea that drilling alone will lower gas prices. "They're already dusting off their three-point plans for $2 gas. I'll save you the suspense: Step one is drill, step two is drill, and step three is keep drilling," he said. dshepardson@detnews.com (202) 662-8735
If there are physical limitations/barriers to having natural gas directly power cars (not to mention the infrastructure gap), would it not be more prudent to focus on having natural gas power the current electric grid and then using that energy to power sweet electric cars?
LNG only has about 65% of the BTU's per gallon of gasoline. Less horsepower, less mileage, less range ... great for urban uses though. Why would power generation in Texas still even consider coal? TCEQ will take another look at Matagorda coal-fired plant http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/TCEQ-will-take-another-look-at-Matagorda-3354299.php
I’m always confused; one day he’s ignorant and in over his head and the next he’s a socialist usurper leading the country down the path of destruction.
I'm all for more natural gas power grids. Unfortunately, dirty coal has a strangehold on those services more than most people realize with super long contracts and a healthy influence in government.
