LOL, good catch. Looking back at the opening post, the link is from TMZ who is about as bad as ESPN at misleading headlines...

Anybody should have the right to kill themselves, no reason needed, no evidence presented and no questions asked. And there should be an over the counter pill that provides for a painless and dignified method.

That's just stupid. Some teenage girl upset that she broke up with her boyfriend now has easy access to a pill to kill herself. Smart.

Yes. The right of self-determination should be absolute.

Also, she can kill herself now if she really wants to. It will just be messy and painful and horrible and a thing to do in shame as abortions were before Roe. v. Wade and as they will be again if it's overturned. And sometimes people will fail in their messy, secret attempts and have to live with that too.

I'm not advocating for people to commit suicide; I'm advocating for the right to do it. It is, or should be, our most fundamental right as human beings on this planet. And of all of the advances of science, providing at a reasonable cost a suicide pill should have been the first thing medicine did. Instead it's "illegal." That is criminal.

Where do you get the idea that suicide is illegal?

I just did a google search and apparently it isn't anymore. It is still illegal to assist a suicide but not to commit one. It used to be though. In Texas it was only recently decriminalized.

An "over-the-counter suicide pill" would be a really dumb idea. It would just give criminals easier access to a weapon they could use to severely hurt someone.

I don't pretend to know the ideal mechanism. I don't argue the means, I argue the end. It should be safe, comfortable, affordable, private and easy to end one's life at his or her choosing. I brought up a pill because there exists such a pill, but the pill is illegal in the United States at least and is apparently very expensive to purchase on the black market.

This poor diabetic and probably depressed actor shouldn't have had to resort to this means of attempting suicide and he shouldn't have to suffer the pain he is suffering now. He chose to be done with pain and everything else involved with life. Who is anyone to say he shouldn't have had a more dignified, less painful and reliable way of doing so. And who is to say whose pain meets the criteria for suicide but the person that might choose it.

Are you insinuating that I am a Jew-hating devil that likes to laugh?

Because I happen to be a Jew myself so I don't believe in the devil.

I do like to laugh though.

    Is this in bad taste?

I see what you are saying Batman, I do.

That said, I think people are far too influenced by passing emotions. To give them the power of easy suicide would be a travesty. Think of all the great minds on this planet that at one time or another were suicidal, but are now advancing the human race and living extremely productive, happy lives. I know that they thank their lucky stars every single day that someone was around to say, "**** no, I'm not going to let you commit suicide. You're going to be ok."

Freedom is nice, but let's not get carried away. Big brother has his downsides, but he is a pretty cool dude in reality.

Also, Mel Gibson is the man. He made Braveheart.

    Braveheart.

    :)
