Knicks will finish anywhere from #7-9. 1st round exit. I'm calling it now. So we will be looking at anywhere from #17-22.

They will make the playoffs for sure. I also agree that they will be a first round exit. Hopefully linsanity has stopped by the playoffs

Melo actually looks OK. Amare, on the other hand...

Doesn't really matter if they win it all (when it comes to draft pick position).

It's where they finish the regular season!

I think 6-8. Just feels like they'll be the 6 seed, little to no chance of them missing the playoffs.

    So pick 15-17 is ours!

By the way, do we HAVE to take the Knicks pick this year?

Can we keep waiting on taking it, or is it the Knicks choice to give it to us? Or is it as soon as it falls outside the top 5 picks?

It makes me mad that the Knicks can finish the season under .500 and still be in the playoffs. I think they will be 8th seed, a few games under .500, and exit first round.

Coach, cmon now, you should know better then that.

If they finish 9th spot, thats a lottery pick meaning 14ish (17-22)

Even if the Knicks make the playoffs as a low seed, I still don't really care too much. Having a 15-17th type of a pick is still pretty good given that it only cost us, or rather Les, some cash for paying Jefferies an extra year. It also at least negates the pick we have to give NJ if we make the playoffs.

I hope the Knicks suck enough to fall into the lottery, but a mid-round pick is pretty good regardless.

Oops. As far as whether we should take it this year or not, i say use it now. I believe this draft will be better outside of the lottery and deep into the 2nd round. There will be many gems found in this draft.
One question. Do we currently have 4 picks in all?? It doesn't show on DX.

as for 1st rounders, we have the Knicks as long as they dont get 1-5 which shouldnt be a problem

ours is the nets unless its a lottery pick, period.

we dont ahve our 2nd rounder but we have someone elses, pretty sure Griz's from the Battier trade.

So most likely one 1st rounder and one 2nd rounder? Still pretty good in such a deep draft.

Ther schedule is brutal coming up. Novak and Jeffries will come back to earth. Lin will tire some at some point. Amare looks horrible and may miss time. And melo is melo. They could still miss the playoffs.

I think it's about 60/40 they make/miss. Seriously there schedule is very hard.

    Ps there coach also blows

The only problem is the teams behind them have dug a pretty deep hole for themselves and are also pretty terrible because the East is a joke conference

Cleveland and New York have lost the same amount of games. NY has a more difficult schedule coming up. It really sucks they lost Varejao or I would be feeling a little better about it. It's too bad Milwaukee lost Bogut as well, they were a solid team with him in the lineup.

Meh maybe Cleveland could threaten but they are still very young and raw, I'm not counting on it

    http://www.nbadraft.net/nba_draft_trades/2012

    Nets receive the Rockets' 2012 first-round pick (top 14 protected in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, or 2017 2nd round pick) (Terrence Williams trade 12-15-10)

Rockets receive the Knicks' 2012 first-round pick (top 5 protected in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015, if not conveyed by 2015 then the Rockets will receive the Knicks 2015 and 2016 second-round picks) (Tracy McGrady trade 02-18-10)

Rockets receive the Timberwolves' 2012 second-round pick (from 31-55 or extinguished) (Draft Day trade 06-23-11) (second round)

So it basically looks like if we don't get into the playoffs, we keep our pick but if we do get into the play offs our 2012 first rounder goes to the Nets.

We pretty much own the Knicks' first rounder, unless it's in the top 5 (assuming the East stays saturated with few great teams but with even way more lesser teams).

And I guess at this point we have the Timberwolves' second round pick.

So to answer your question, we have 2 picks (ish) if we get into the playoffs, if we don't we get 3. Either way we need to move players, we have enough "depth/assets". Hopefully something gets done soon, I don't mind a trade for Gasol if something else is in the works afterwards. It does suck though that if we do get Pau, we definitely aren't have any chance (even if we didn't have much of a chance before) to sign Dwight Howard. Might be able to get Deron over here with Gasol but I seriously doubt it..

There is so much misinformation about pick range.

If the Knicks finished 7th-8th, the pick can be only 22nd if the Knicks had the 8th best record in the league. The 15th-30th draft picks are by inverse order of record for playoff teams. As the 8th seed in the East, all 8 western conference teams would have to be below 0.500 and all the eastern teams for this to happen. As the 7th seed in the East, then 2nd-7th western conference seeds would have to be below 0.500 and all the eastern teams for this to happen.

If the lottery were to happen today, the Knicks would be the 16th ranked playoff team by inverse order of record. All the western conference teams would be in the 17-30 range. There would be 6 eastern teams in the 17-30 range.

If the Knicks finished 9th, they can not draft the 17th pick or later. The first 14 draft picks go to all non-playoff teams. The 17th or later picks are definitely out of the question, since the 14th pick is as low as you can go for a 9th seed. Since the West 9th-10th seed may have a better record than the 9th seeded East team, Th 9th seeded team would pick 12th at worst. The 13th and 14th picks would go to the 9th-10th seeded Western teams. As of today, the 9th seeded East team would draft 11th and the 9th-11th seeded West teams would take 12th-14th.

It's either 10-12th pick for Knicks 9th place finish or
the Knicks 15th-16th pick for a 7th-8th playoff seed.

Unless, all 4 teams in the 7th-10th West seeded teams have major injuries to star players, the Knicks are unlikely to draft in the 13th-14th range.
