See but that's what makes rondo's ability to get to the basket and score at a high percentage crazy impressive. In that regard, rondo is superior to lowry. I do believe that lowry's overall game is much more rounded though and at the difference in salaries, lowry is a lot better for our team. I think rondo is better for the lakers though. Just imagining him driving and kicking out to kobe for the j is scary. His main weakness isn't really his shooting, I'd say its his free throws that are holding him back the most.
I mention it, because he is undersized, as are most of those guys you mentioned, yes he is heavier, which makes him slow laterally and unable to keep the faster PG's in front of him. Yes, you can say Billups, but Lowry does not have close to Billups ability to control the tempo, Billups would be the absolute ceiling for Kyle. I think Kyle is a good PG, but I am not enamored with him, he can be great in transition, and average in the half court, and his D is vastly overated, IMO. To me, he is a hustling PG, who gets by on grit and determination. Good to have, but not to build around. BTW - I don't like a lot about Rondo too, but IMO, he is a lot better than Lowry. DD
Apparently Danny Ainge (master of the "we're not looking to trade him" speech) agrees with you. Wish I could remember where I heard/read it, but when this current iteration of the Celtics is done (i.e., this season), he doesn't want to rebuild around Rondo. Rondo is better at D than Lowry. Lowry can shoot better than Rondo. Maybe I'd give the edge to Rondo on not over-dribbling and quick decision-making, but then again, he plays with 3 future Hall of Famers. Lowry plays with Kevin Martin and Luis Scola---not bad, but not KG, PPierce, Ray Allen. And Rondo's price tag is far higher.
I will take Lowry. I think Rondo is more expensive that Lowry if I am not wrong, and has more injure problems than Lowry right now. Also I do not know if Rondo can ever improve his shooting from three to two point shots, but Lowry did improve his shooting each year.
What do you mean by "control the tempo"? Can you give a specific example of something he should be doing better in this regard?
Lowry is the better scorer and rebounder. Rondo is better at everything else--Court vision, finishing around the rim, defense, athleticism... I'll take Rondo over Lowry, but it is close.
I think Rondo was also involved in conversations with Boston trying to land Paul during the off season. My first reaction was that Rondo is going to be a terrible fit because he has to have scorers around him to be effective. Lowry can be effective regardless of his supporting cast. Now in regards to the Lakers, I think Rondo would be pretty effective he is fantastic at pressuring the defense in transition and he would always have Kobe to dish to. On top of being a great ball hawking defender at the point which is a huge weakness for LA.
Lowry because Rondo has weaknesses (outside shooting, free throw shooting, offensive efficiency) while Kyle has no major weaknesses.
Their current stats this season Rondo only leads in Assist and FG%. Kyle averages more points, rebounds, steals (which is surprising), better 3 Point % and Free throw %, he gets to the line more often and turns the ball over less. I can see the arguement that Rondo is better because he has done it over a longer stretch than Lowry but, you cannot argue that he is better at every catagory.
Lowry is elite defender himself, and had improved to be a better offensive player and better rebounder. Lowry's clutchness&toughness is top tier as well. Now look at their salaries... Lowry is a far better value.
You keep dumping and putting limits on Lowry DD. He'll keep on getting better and making you look stupid and we'll keep laughing of asses off.
I like Rondo, but Lowry is NOW better. He has really evolved. His shooting has greatly improved. Rondo is still a hit and miss shooter.
I hope you are right Reek, but he hasn't gotten any better from last year, he is pretty much what he is going to be, a good solid, triple threat PG. Not a guy to build around, but not one to chuck away for nothing either. I like him, just not as much as some here do. No biggie...it is all good for the Rox. DD
Lowry makes players around better. Remember when we thought Chase was good? It was just because he was playing with Lowry with the 2nd unit.
That is a major stretch. Almost every player on the roster is having a worse year with Lowry ball vs the motion offense last year.
