I'll agree on the end to end speed and also concede that Rondo is an otherworldly defensive player, but I'll still take Kyle anyday.
Rondo is a much better player than Lowry, and he is not undersized, Rondo is a better defender, better finisher, and better at running an offense and controlling the game. Lowry is better at the 3pt shot, that is it. Lowry is a nice player, but he is an undersized, competitive fireplug, who is not ever going to be elite. Rondo is knocking on that door.....Rondo by a mile. DD
If u heard one of bill simons' recent podcasts he was sayin hes sick of rondo and defenders stepping 10 ft off him and spoke of a trade for rondo and pieces for lowry and scola and he was all for it , thats a big celtics fan basically saying hed rather have lowry than rondo , a pg that cant shoot is a liability thats why jkidd is so great he taught himself to shoot more and has became a great 3 pt shooter making him a better all round player and more space to play with
This seems about right. Also factor in contracts (10M vs 6M) and Lowry's clearly the better player. Rondo's inability to hit jumpshots really hurts his value as a pg, once the opponent starts going zone you're basically 4 out of 5 on offense.
That's interesting if Simmons says he'd prefer Lowry over Rondo. He has to be in the minority among knowledgeable Celtics fans, though.
Undersized? Lowry guarded SGs just fine, and now he's undersized in the pg position? Gimme a break DD. And saying Lowry is "only" better at the 3 pt shot is a major understatement. A pg who can't hit open 3 pters is a huge liability come playoff time. That's like saying Mutombo is only better at blocking shots than Jordan Hill.
Rondo over Lowry, agreed. But we can't overlook free throws. That's a big deal for a PG who will have the ball in his hands a lot in crunch time.
I'm curious to see how Rondo will fare once Pierce and Garnett are gone...Is he one of those franchise players to build around?? Doubtful.......
Hey, hey now. Let him say that now all he wants. Must we all forget the DD reverse jinx. Im pretty sure Rondo will go blow an ACL tonight and Lowry get another triple double. Just let him go on about it.
That's the biggest problem for me. Rondo is better at finishing around the rim for sure, but his 60% FT shooting makes it a viable option for opposing teams, especially in close games, to foul him without major consequences (depending on who fouls him of course). It just seems Rondo's game is easy to shut down.
I would say though that Rondo is the slightly better PG, but that being said I would not trade Lowry for Rondo right now. For the small amount increase in talent, and improvements Lowry keeps on making to his game, I value the stability in keeping Lowry on the books for a few more years to see how far he gets you in the West if you put some good players around him. Rondo is not "the guy" thats going to put this team in the upper portion of the West. They are closer to pulling off a trade for another player to pair with Lowry to put them towards the top of the West much faster.
You keep mentioning Lowry as undersized. 1. Lowry is short. At just 6'0 he stands 3 inches shorter than your average point guard. 2. Lowry is heavy. At 215 lbs, he is 25 lbs heavier than your average point guard. How does this affect his 1 on 1 matchups? Because he's shorter, players can see over him one would think they would have an advantage posting him up or dominating him in the mid-range game. You are wrong to believe that his height is a weakness. Due to his compact nature and low center of gravity, opponents can't back him down. He is also hard to get by with quick hands and adequate lateral movement. There have been plenty of short PGs that are/were great at some, if not many aspects of the game: 1. Isiah Thomas - 6'1 2. John Lucas - 5'11 3. Terrell Brandon - 5'11 4. Tony Parker - 6'2 5. Chris Paul - 6'0 6. Mookie Blaylock - 6'0 7. Tim Hardaway - 6'0 8. Kevin Johnson - 6'0 9. John Vaginal Stockton - 6'1 Rondo has freakish length and great court savvy. Lowry has GREAT size and has shown flashes of doing it all at times, including dominating the boards. Yes, I'll take Rondo to build around, but there's no reason to think that Lowry has reached his ceiling yet. Steve Nash, Chauncey Billups(who Lowry really reminds me of)... these guys took years to really become great.
Rondo easily. He has better court vision and is a better passer than Lowry. Lowry is a better rebounder and shooter though, but I would give the edge to Rondo

That Morey or any other GM has a positive opinion of Rondo says nada. That Danny Ainge, the guy in Boston who really really wanted Rondo and made it happen -Though it wasn't that hard because they bought the pick from Phoenix back when they handed away their first rounders as if they were only top 50 protected second rounders-, is throwing Rondo's name on trades out there as if he didn't even care, says mucho. Because of the poor way the Celtics are handling themselves, on the court and FO, Rondo's reputation must be at its lowest.
