I'll take Rose... you can't go wrong with either player though. I think Rose's ceiling is a little bit higher than Westbrook's.
I think Rose because he can score in a variety of ways and relies less on athleticism. Plus he has actually improved in the area of 3pt shooting and it is rare for a player to be able to add to their game like that. I'm also more confident that Rose will improve on defense, and less confident that Westbrook will improve of offense.
I'm guessing you haven't seen WB's quantum leap on offense this season. He's always been a better FT shooter than Rose but this year so far, the gap is 11% (87.3 vs. 76.4). His jumper is also much better than last year and usually improves during the season. Just to be clear, Rose is at 25.1/4.3/8.1. WB is 23.6/5.3/8.8. Rose has a huge edge in 3-point shooting percentage (41.6% vs. 29.0%) and attempts (4.2 vs. 1.2) but I doubt he finishes the season over 40%. Rose also has a slim edge in 2-point FG% (46.6 vs. 44.6) but this is negated by Westbrook's edge at the FT line (8.5 per game vs 5.2, % diff stated above). I'm actually of the opinion that WB is further away from what he will ultimatly be as a player than Rose is. But, hey, it'll be fun watching who's right. I used to think WB definitely didn't have as high a ceiling, but no more.
Alot of posters don't watch basketball outside of the rockets, but you do and thats great. Personally, i think i would take westbrook because of the edge he plays with. Thats not to say rose is a softie or anything, but westbrook plays with a ferocity i haven't ever seen at pg. I like them both, but when you can make durant seem kinda backgroundish, that says alot about what kind of player you are.
I'd take Rose because he is effortless and more smooth with his playmaking ability...Westbrook maybe because of his freakish athleticism seems erratic and outta control sometimes...Its always one speed with him it seems...I dont see how he improves a whole lot from this year unless its defensively...Dont get me wrong he's a top 5 PG...maybe top 3 ...but it just seems erratic to me!!
what you call ferocity, he calls erratic just interesting the different perspectives. I tend to agree with erratic (although like he says, not necessarily a negative), I just like the smooth play of rose. he's developed that game speed that it took kobe to develop after a couple of years
Just thought since there's been debates all around about PGs recently, I'd bump this again. It's still close IMO. The thing that differs to me between the two is that I don't think Westbrook could lead a team to 60 wins being a #1 option. You want to take that back now after last years playoffs?
Westbrook is more unarguable than Rose is. Westbrook is spine-tinkling quick. Rose, however, is a better finisher and makes better decisions.
Uh...Rose is the only elite level player on their team. OKC has one, arguably two players better than WB. Switch the two players and the Bulls would be a lottery team.
you think the bulls would be a lottery team with westbrook instead of rose ? that is one of the dumbest things ive ever heard. the bulls would not even be a lottery team without either of them. they are one of the best defensive, if not the best in the league, they share the ball, and do have talent outside of rose. they would for sure be a playoff team without rose. with westbrook they would still be a top 2 seed in the east.
Even without Rose or Westbrook, I wouldn't say they're a lottery team, especially since they play in the East. They'd definitely make the playoffs with their current team (7-2 I think without Rose this season albeit against easy competition thus far) but in a normal season, I could see them winning somewhere between 40-46 wins, with Rose I can see them winning 60+ games. With Westbrook, it's different because I have yet to see him play as a #1 option but I just don't see him leading a team like Rose leads the Bulls and that's what matters in the playoffs. In the playoffs, Rose is a different animal compared to Westbrook... I don't think Westbrook could lead that team to the ECF as Rose did last season. That's arguable. The only person that has been able to stop Rose thus far has been LeBron. They're both very similar.. fast, strong, athletic.
No, I couldn't. The Pacers didn't look like a 39 win team in the playoffs last season (though I think Westbrook could beat them). I don't however think they could've beat the Hawks last year with Westbrook. Rose took over that series and pretty much beat the Hawks by himself alone. Like I said, it's for me to imagine Westbrook doing that because I haven't seen him as a #1 option and when I have seen him force it as a #1 option, he hasn't looked all that great.
Well, by the same token, the Bulls played Miami close despite Rose being destroyed by Lebron and completely getting shut down every time it mattered.
Yeah, I'm not saying the Bulls aren't a great team though. I'm just saying that I think the Bulls won that series against the Hawks more-so because Rose took over offensively. I don't know if I could see Westbrook doing that. The Bulls will always be a good team as long as they have their defense, there's no question about that.
I guess we have different evaluations of WB's bball IQ and ability to run the team. I'm not a fan of WB as a pg at all, I think he's a SG masquerading as a pg, and having to run the offense and make plays for other people is slowing him down. If WB was in the bulls Thibs would treat him pretty much as he treats Rose and run the offense 90% through him. I don't think other players would be able to "share the ball" or get off with him getting all the offense. I haven't seen him see a shot he doesn't like.
you need to understand that the bulls offense and thunder offense are very different. the thunder offense definitely needs WB to be aggressive to score, and he is damn good at it so i dont see why he is getting so much hate. the starting lineup is with 3 other guys who are not scorers (thabo, ibaka, perkins) rose plays with hamilton, deng, and boozer, 3 guys who CAN score. westbrooks offense is needed, and his team is winning so people need to get off his ass.
