According to who? You? $5 dollar parking? Where is this 5 dollar parking located I sure would like to know? Oh please bestow us with you infinite knowledge.....
There is 5 dollar parking. I forgot what street but it's right before you get to toyota center. i usually park in the 10 dollar parking lot a couple of blocks from tc. it isn't that far of a walk.
There's also plenty of free parking if you don't mind walking a few blocks. Parking meters are turned off after 5pm, I believe. There are lots of reasons not to go to Rocket games these days, but parking isn't one of them.
Bingo! We used to have guys that we knw would be here for a minute, but with this team, you don't. In terms of prices,I make a lot of money and I have a family. When I go to games,I'm not gonna go cheap. I'm going to buy seat in the lower bowl and I'm going to let my kids enjoy the experience of an nba game. So 2 adults and 3 kids, that's almost $400 right there. Food, drinks, popcorn, video games, parking and everything else, that's another couple hundred bucks. My league pass in front of my 100 inch only hit me for $189. That's not to say I don't go to the games, I just don't go to as many as I did when I was single and the team was better.
As RedRedemption said - we don't have a star. Stars make the team entertaining. They didn't know who was going to play when they made the schedule but I guarantee you they make the schedules based on if your team has a star. Sad that we can't even get on TV by playing Miami or the Lakers. Scola, Martin and Lowry just aren't going to bring in the non-Rocket fans and most of that stadium gets filled (when it does fill) based on the stars on the floor.
So if I'm following you, you're saying that people in Houston aren't Rocket fans? That's a serious question as I don't live in Houston anymore. Are you saying they're fans of other NBA teams or it's an football city(which I find hard to believe given the Texans' history with the exception of this last year and the Oilers' abandonment) even though football season has been over for a month?
Stars definitely bring the fans to the game. The OKC game last week was a very good showing. The other games I've been to (which is damn near all of them) has not been so good. I understand it's expensive, but if it's affordable and you care, you should be at the game. It's obvious that until we bring in a superstar, we aren't going to see a good fan base until we play a team with a star, or when we are close to and/or are in the playoffs.
IMO - Not really. Even when Hakeem was here, most people in the stands knew who he was but were clueless about the other players or the game in general. But people came out to see Hakeem. They still didn't fill the seats in the middle years until they became an item. When you first get stars (young high picks or established), people come out. Over time there will still be people to come out but if they don't get new stars or they don't become an item, attendance will drop some and then flatten out. Ours has flattened out at the low point because Martin, Scola and Lowry are "old" and bringing in people like Dalembert is not going to put fans in the seats. These people want entertainment. They don't want to watch reruns of something that wasn't that entertaining to them to begin with.
If we play Lakers, Heat, Bulls, Celtics, now the Knicks, people will come out. Rocks draw pretty good against Thunder and Spurs. People pay for hype (Lin) and for good teams to watch.
The Rockets are currently 26th in the League in attendance. Pathetically enough, just last week we were 29th, behind the Detroit Pistons. The year we got our 7'6" Chinese Center, we were 27th in attendance (out of 29 teams). The year we paired Tracy McGrady, a 2 time scoring champ with Yao Ming, we jumped up to 23rd in the League. The year we had our strongest team in years with Artest, Yao, McGrady, Brooks, Lowry, Scola, Hayes, Mutombo, Landry, Wafer, and Battier, we jumped all the way up to 16th in the league in attendance. Still below average. I don't really think it has to do with stars. Rockets have had their fair share of starpower in the last decade. It has to do with Houston fans just not being good fans.
Parking on the sidewalk is free after six pm. I only walk maybe three blocks one way, two blocks another. And if that's too much for you, put down the nachos and burgers made of butter that you're eating right now as you're reading my post. It's about an 8 minute walk.
I think this actually backs up that it does have something to do with stars. But at a certain point, you have to do something with those stars. If their health would have held out and they would have done all that was expected, they would have been an item and climbed even more IMO. However, you could also say that because fans don't show up unless the team has stars and performs as a contender should, then they are all just bandwagon fans - and I think that part is also true.
How many playoff series did the Rockets win during this time period? One. It takes time to build a winning tradition that fans will consistently pay to see. One playoff series win in 12 years doesn't equal a winning tradition. Especially coming out of the Hakeem era.
I tried that for the bucks game, but now they have the towing sign there. Me and my cousin went to the nuggets game last season and it was free.
Yes it is a football city. not college fb, but pro football easily. Football is huge in texas whether you are in hs, college or pro.
