pretty damning stuff in here, time for Morey to take advantage http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/...flection-on-lakers-deteriorating-front-office
I knew something was wrong when they hired Mike Brown, a guy no other team would have hired. That blew my mind. When they let Odom go for nothing, that was another strong sign they were clueless. Glad for confirmation of the disarray.
Kobe recently said in an interview that his time to move has come and gone. Gave pretty good indications that he was a Lakers lifer. I took that for the truth. And his contract because it exceeds a super max deal, makes him very difficult to trade for value and to trade him into a championship situation. This deal with the Lakers has been building for a while ever since Jerry Buss started taking a backseat with the team and letting his son run things. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they canned Kupchap (another stupid move). In my humble opinion, trading Bynum and Gasol to Orlando for Dwight, Hedo, Jameer, and Ryan Anderson fixes the Lakers problems on the court for the remainder of Kobe's career. It will be interesting if Mitch is willing to pull the trigger on a deal like that and if Otis Smith is willing to make the move himself. Lakers can then sign Gilbert in the offseason and play for another 2-3 years with Kobe/Dwight etc. I still think this is the most likely scenario for both teams but I'm hoping the front office crap with the Lakers scuttles it all....so my team has a chance.
Since Jim Buss was given the reign, you knew they would be in trouble. Classic story of successful business ruined by incompetent second generation. Jerry should have just sold the ownership when he's ready to retire. But anything that contributes to the demise of the Evil Empire is good news to me.
If a Laker front office in disarray got Chris Paul to the Lakers (which took a veto for the 1st time in NBA history to screw it up) then imagine what they would do if they got their "**** together"
The Lakers front office in disarray actually makes i tharder to pull off a good trade, or any trade, with them. If they don't knows who makes the decisions and what the franchise wants to do, it is difficult for talks to reach the level of a final deal. Things just ge paralyzed by default.
Roland Lazenby went in on the organization a few days ago on Twitter. Some damning stuff. Dr. Buss set everything in motion by handing the reins to Jim not Jeanie apparently.
Figure Jim makes the decisions now hence we're seeing what we've seen this season. I think it makes it easier to swindle the Lakers in a trade.
It might, or it might become a situation similar to Kahn in Minnesota, where an inexperienced and insecure executive tend to refuse to make any major move unless it is a "clear win" for his team.
We already know the Lakers FO can do if they've got their **** together: Magic, Shaq, Kobe, Pau Gasol....the list goes on.... Anyway I agree with the other posters, hiring Mike Brown was really a big "WTF?!" and should have alerted everyone that the Lakers org was going to the dogs.
While we are looting, please don't forget the Laker Girls. What's a good looting without some pillaging?
No front office is perfect, having said that the writer is exaggerating the state of the management because hes mad he didn't get an interview. These are the same media hacks who painted Kobe in a negative picture because he wouldn't suck up to them or give them an interview and turned off to them. I'd hold further judgement until the trade deadline
it's my understanding that neither GM will budge on a deal like that. it may be your opinion and the wishful thinking of Faker Nation, but Howard to LAL just ain't happening... p.s. YOUR team?
