I'm sure the Celtics regret cutting Ben Wallace in training camp. Just like how the Wizards/Magic regret trading him. Undrafted rookies who are succesful (and there are very very very very few of them, the only ones I can name off the top of my head who have become stars are Wallace and Lin. And a couple of semi-successful ones like David Wesley, Chucky Atkins) tend to get cut by a bunch of teams before shining.

Kenny Smith flat out nailed it, it is Daryl Morey and Kevin McHale's JOB to recognize talent, to be the evaluator and to make decisions that will help the Rockets franchise going forward. There are ZERO excuses for cutting this guy, especially to keep Jeff Adrien, not contracts, not money, nothing....the guy is a very good NBA talent, and the coaching staff and organization BLEW it big time by not keeping that talent in Houston. I agree and its very depressing, i lost alot of confidence i had in morey when it comes to talent evaluation.
Why does that make him an expert on this topic? Does he think he would have known it if he was running the ballclub or the headcoach, and he'd be so confident in that assessment that he'd sign Lin even with 3 other PGs with contracts on the team? Its easy to spot the talent now, after he's averaged 25 and 9 as a starter. Seeing it in an abridged training camp, when he's the 14th or 15th guy getting limited PT and there are many other things to take care of due to having a new coaching staff is much tougher. I just kind of roll my eyes with comments like that.
There are other teams that need a PG much more desperately than the Rockets (Lakers for example). Their fans should be the ones whining. Would love to have Lin here, but it was just bad luck rather than incompetence that resulted in this.
It's not an excuse. We missed it, that's for sure. But we had Lowry and Dragic at PG, Martin and Lee at SG. Morey knew he was good, but he didn't know he would be THIS good. Lowry and Dragic are very good PGs capable at starting on any team. Nobody knew Lin would be this good, absolutely nobody. Did we miss? Sure, but was it a stupid decision on our part when we cut him? I don't think so.
When Deron plays at his best like this, he's as good as Lin at his best. Lin was not at his best tonight. Too much deferring to Melo. Maybe better for the long-term though. But in the short term, Knicks are definitely better with Lin taking an absurb number of shots.
I heard that the Lakers did want to sign him off the waiver but the Rockets had a worse record so Lin went to Houston instead. Is that true? Anyway, the Lakers could have still signed him after the Rockets released him.
In what relation does the worse record stand? This season the record are about equal. With the Rockets don't have a superstar and stars in Gasol and Bynum.
What's the big ****ing deal we let him go. He isn't that good...anyone would average the same PPG if they took as many shots.
He was playing on the Rockets' training, so he had to have been waived before the 2011-12 preseason. It would have been dependent on the 2010-11 season, which was the most recent record.
