    http://prod.danpatrick.com/2012/02/...cks-factor-in-eastern-conference-in-playoffs/

A couple days old, but still interesting. Chris Mannix from SI interviewed by Dan Patrick on various subjects. The discussion re: Gasol starts at 5:40 in the radio clip.

    Relevant parts:

DP asked about rumors of Gasol to Minnesota. Mannix said that the Lakers are not going to just dump Gasol for salary relief, but are looking for a "marquee guy" in return and lists Rondo, Lowry and Love as examples. Mannix said that the Lakers would trade Gasol for one of these guys "in a heart beat" but the problem is that the other teams would not do it.

Nothing we haven't discussed before (Feigen reported that NOH wanted Lowry in the 3-team CP trade, but said the Rockets would never do it), but interesting to hear it from Mannix this is where things stand as of a couple days ago.

Can't say its a bad move.

Gasol is still very good but Lowry hasn't tapped his full potential yet.

But nice to know Lowry is an unofficial all-star.

I hear the Lakers would do Gasol for Durant in a heartbeat also.

    Lowry has officially arrived.

We can give them Dragic and Scola.

We have the power of position. They need to take what they can get for the limp Spanish penis.

Dragic would be better for Lakers.

Obviously if they wanted Lowry, it would be a Lowry + Scola deal.

I got to say I'd be mildly tempted to make such a deal. Yes, Lowry is awesome this year, but having Gasol would shift our "strength" to the interior rather than the perimeter. We'd still have Martin, and Dragic (for this year) and there's always the option of making another move to get a Deron Williams (for this year).

Don't get me wrong, massive Lowry fan - but if he gets us Gasol then surely it's worth at least considering IF we can then make another move?
I do like the fact we're trying to force them to take a different deal.
And if I'm the Lakers, trading Gasol to bring back a package of Scola + Dragic + (Budinger or Hill) would be pretty tempting since it would not only significantly upgrade their weakest spot (PG) but also gives them a nice p'n'r guy (Scola) and also some bench impact (and scoring in Bud, which they are totally lacking).

Nice to hear "marquee guy" used to describe Lowry.

Lowry for gasol is dumb. We all know morey would never do this trade. If the lakers get desperate enough they might even pull the trigger for dragic and scola.

Lowry is 26, Gasol is what, 31? I don't do that trade for that reason alone.

    Magic?

It does rhyme (spelling wise) but I just don't see it.

Lakers aren't trading Pau just to trade him. Kupchak wants at least an All Star level player back in return.

Let's hope this is true, I can still see Morey trading Lowry for a player we all believe is not worth it.

Good benchmark for Lowry's value amongst the NBA.
