You realize you can be fiscally conservative, socially liberal... and vote democrat. It really just depends on what determines your vote. I'm sure there might come another time where Manny goes back to being a Republican. The republican party has swung into crazy mode as you see the shift to Rick Santorum. Independents like Manny don't buy the rhetoric "Anything is better than Nobama." Clearly, he wasn't disenfranchised by GWB because he still voted for McCain. Clearly, he doesn't buy into the "Obama is the worst prez evar" argument because he sees that while he's not anything near perfect, he's doing a good enough job to re-elect. I love how both extremes like to claim that the other are "sheeple" or mindless. What they don't realize is that most people don't see in black and white. Those who sit in the shades of grey in our political spectrum are likely to be more intelligent.

I quit looking to political parties for the answers long ago. You have to try harder than that if you want to make the decisions that you feel are in your, and your country's, best interest. That said, good for you on putting forth that effort to make tough decisions in this age of sickening levels of partisanship and cronyism. Political Parties... the camouflage of representation.
This is exactly how I feel. I voted McCain because I didn't agree with Obama on quite a few issues, and I feel the President should be a veteran. Now I'm looking at Santorum wondering if the GOP is trying to get a special on comedy central. Although I don't completely agree with Obama, but in my opinion is a way better choice for president than Santorum if he gets the nod. And man my parents are going to freak if they hear I voted for a damn Liberal .
Agreed... he just wasn't as extreme, so I decided Mondale and Dukakis were SLIGHLTY more palatable on the national level.
Missed this I would say moderately well off. I am by no means rich but I have a decent portfolio, Have mortgages in Queens and the Catskill Mountains and love to travel. I would consider myself a productive member of society. But, I am not in my 60s I'm not a student (except a student of guitar) I am a member of the GLBT & African American communities (aren't we all?)
I think Dukakis was actually fine, and to have both immigrants assimilating and hippie boomers ascending during the '70s and '80s he was a completely appropriate fit once Gary Hart imploded. The problem was he had one or two genuine gaffes (tank ad, death penalty answer), he was married to Foster Brooks and Atwater decided at that moment to completely re-invent modern political campaigning.
Other side? He's just become an independent. He didn't do anything drastic like move to Canada. What is your side anyway? Team red or team orange?
