I'm afraid that, as Manny examines the top Democratic leadership, he will discover the smelt (swimming) in his coffee.
Congrats for leaving the dark side nevertheless, the democratic party is corrupt also. I think the democrats are a bit more for the little guy, but they can be bought out just as easily as the republicans. What really pisses me off is that many of the democrats on capitol hill are not fighters. They are willing to compromise too much, and will remain silent while grave injustices are being committed by the other side. At least the republicans stick by their guns and will cooperate in the face of opposition. Unlike the democrats who have trouble standing in a straight line and consistently fold under pressure. I myself am very liberal, but really i see our two party system as being split into two categories: conservative and more conservative. The majority of democrats in office are not staunchly progressive, and the democrats agenda on foreign policy is virtually the same as conservatives. In reality, our democratic party which is supposedly "liberal" would be labeled conservative in many European states. I am pretty sure that national polls have been conducted, which found that our population is definitely more liberal than conservative. the problem is, liberals don't come out to vote as much as conservatives do. My family has had many public school teachers who have worked in many impoverished areas. It is disheartening to see the inequality that exists from school to school, my sister was actually an algebra teacher at a lower income school and taught the same grades as you teach. she was receiving MANY kids who could hardly multiply or divide, how are these kids supposed to learn algebra if they don't know the basics? These students just get passed down from teacher to teacher, even if they are not ready for that class yet. The faculty told her to pass failing students. I graded her tests one time and had to pass almost all of these failing grades, it was really shocking. That school in particular did not have any resource classes, and if it did its availability was extremely limited. People wonder why this country is going down hill so fast, we need to educate our people. That is the best long term investment a country can make. anyways cool story bro
After reading the post topic and seeing your voting history, it seems it should have been entitled "I have decided to remain an independent but am upset with Republicans so I'm voting Obama this time."
One thing? You mean the one thing of you never being a republican in a thread titled I Have Quit the Republican Party ? I only give a crap because this is the classic argument that is the weakest. Your argument of forgetting seems suspect, more likely you forgot you told the truth earlier. Calling my van a POS is a clear sign you are delusional.
Manny -- it really seems like you're here fishing for a sense of inclusion from the folks on this board, which overwhelmingly leans liberal. You are easily shaped by those around you -- not only on your politics but apparently your faith. Some unsolicited advice -- trust your gut, stick to your positions, don't be so wishy washy and run around looking for people to approve of your choices. Look at who supports the Democrats on this board -- you have 60 year old "still hippies" like Deckard, you have a lot of student types who likely are not well accepted by society, you have the GLBT community, and you have African Americans. Then look at the Republican followers -- successful, productive members of society. Think about that.
This is why Mississippi and Alabama are solidly Republican, they're successful and productive.
wow. texxx, you need to refer to your gay friends and to your black friends quick. I personally find it hilarious, but your Freudian slip might cost you any credibility anytime you try to defend your record of blatant stereotyping and "oh, i have no problem with gays and blacks!".
so, you're implying that there's something wrong with supporting Democrats because the GLBT community and African Americans do, and it has NOTHING to do with their status as productive and successful members of society? just that---think about it. yes, let's think about it.
Once again, you bring up race in a negative way. If you think the board is full of such unproductive people, please do us all a favor and leave. Join the Glenn Beck community. You are disgusting.
This is exactly what happened to me. I voted for GHWB in the first election for which I was eligible and since then, the GOP has gone off the deep end. I hope one day to be able to vote my conservative viewpoints with a clear conscience, sadly that day is far off, I fear.
The next time they ask this, explain that if they are ever in business, they might need to find the break even point, which is the intersection of two lines. Then, let them know that is only one concept out of thousands in higher education and the job market, where algebra is actually applied.
What conservatives are SUPPOSED to be, IMO, are the hard nosed pragmatists who take the lofty ideals and pie in the sky proposals of the liberals and turn them into real, workable, affordable solutions. This is how it happened with Social Security, Medicare, environmental protection, and a whole host of other legislation. There is a reason that Social Security is the most successful social program in our nation's history, it is partly due to the fact that conservatives made sure that the numbers added up.
Amazing how many people on this board have changed their political affiliation over the years and it always seems to be conservative to liberal -- not the other way around.
