Oh bull****. McHale as a GM brought in Kevin Love for OJ Mayo, where do you get your facts from? Do you also want to know who else McHale drafted? Kevin Garnett Don't tell me that McHale is bad at recognizing talent, that's far from the truth. T-Will had all the opportunities in the world to take the starting spot. He got beat out by a rookie. Are you saying that we should gift T-Will the starting spot over Parsons (and to an extent Chase) when our SF spot is filled with young players? Same for Thabeet. Are you saying we should gift him playing time over Hill and Patterson? If our team was full of veterans it'd be a different story, but the 09ers can't even beat out rookies and sophomores. It's all on them. As for Adrien, yes in hindsight it's not a good move. But solid bigs was our biggest concern going into the season wasn't it? Patterson was injured, we didn't sign Dalembert yet. All we had was Scola, Hill and Thabeet available. After losing Hayes, how do you think our defense would look now when it was already bad before? Would you say addressing the front court issue is more important? Or bringing in another PG behind Lowry and Dragic?
Coaches don't always like "volatility" in a player's game. Courtney Lee is a VANILLA player. But he's very good in what he's asked to do. Defends adequately and find spots to shoot off the ball, solid 3 point maker. Dependable output. T-Will might enter the game and turn it over on his first 2 trips, -then miss a jumper on his 3rd trip, -give up a defensive assigment on his 4th, -stand around on offense on the 5th, -Before you see his "potential" with a forced splashy pass on the 6th trip. Thats how a coach might see the game. Chandler Parsons, Lee and Budinger might not be more talented, but they wont waste a handful of possessions before displaying some "upside". By the time that upside comes around, you might have given up an extra 5-7 points. Its why you need to allow time for a player to work out his kinks ON THE COURT, by clearing out the depth in front of him.
I would say keeping NBA talent is a longer term view, and that is of utmost importance. I will not argue about McHale's record for finding talent, he was at best hit and miss.
So are most GMs, you know who has more hits than misses in our organization? Keeping NBA talent is a longer term only when you can use that talent. You were just arguing earlier that T-Will wasn't given a chance, so now you are saying we should keep Lin when 100% he would not have the chance to play much at all behind Lowry and Dragic. You don't see the contradiction? Unless you are proposing we give Lin playing time over Lowry and Dragic (this is without hindsight), which would make no sense at all. Keep in mind that we wanted to keep Lin, Lin would have been on our roster if it wasn't for the veto'd trade.
It comes down to system vs player. Not all systems for work every roster, and not all players fit in every system. Morey was trying to stockpile talent, any talent that was undervalued by other teams and such. Though, even using sabermetrics, stats, and even eye balls its is very difficult to project how a player will perform in a different system. If you let a player just play and tell him go play how you have always played, he will always do better. That is what Lin is doing with the Knicks right now. That is what T-will did in the D-League and sort of what Morris is doing in the D-League right now. The key is for the coaching staff to modify your system to use maximize those talents of the players. If Lin is best as a PnR, ball in his hands always PG, then that is what the Rockets should have tried to let him do when he is in the game. If T-will is more a facilitator than a scorer, then play him as that. At least try to see how that will work. Now we have no clue what happened behind the scenes in the practices and everything. Whether that was tried, or not. What was worked on. Combine with NO Summer league, and no contact between all these younger player and the coaches for months and a shortened pre-season. It is silly to expect any of that to have happened. Remember McHale talking about all the time in the pre-season, how he is still trying to figure out what the starters can and cannot do and get them up to speed with his system during the pre-season and even the season. They just did not have time to effectively evaluate what Lin, T-Will, etc. could do very well, and let them play that style of game. Then when your OWNER wants you to go for the playoffs and try to win, that has to take precedent. You cannot just put in that un proven player and let the team system change for them without seeing what would happen. The difference between those players and Parsons, is that Parsons is exactly suited to fit into this system. He is not supposed to be a facilitator, or ball goes through me type of player. Just because there needs to be some accountability for decisions made and how things played out, does NOT equate to blame being thrown around simply because things went wrong. The norm is that things do not work out a lot of the time, forgot even a few times. That is the baseline.
Of course the coaches have something to do with it. But obviously my commentary was about Morey, not a top to bottom dialog about the Rockets staff.
He's a 2,not a 3. That's. Not to say he can't play it in spurts against certain lineups, but he's a 2. Tbh,chase is really a 2 also. When you talk about 3, its normally the bigger guy at that spot. Kobe plays the 2,ray allen does as well. I guess you can say pierce is a 3,but that's more of a luxury because they have allen. Jefferson is a 3,mau is a 2. Ideally, you would like for the 2 and 3 to be interchangable, so they just say swingman.I've never seen williams and said he's a 3 and should beat out chase. That's why I've said they're overloaded at the 2. Martin, williams, dragic, lee, and chase are all pretty much sg's.
Sometimes I feel like you guys want our players to fail. I love and hate coming on to clutchfans. This is one of those moments when I hate coming on here.
He got beat out by Chandler Parsons, a SMALL FORWARD. Terrence Williams is not a forward. He is a guard. For him to play, he has to beat out Kevin Martin & Courtney Lee (A guy he was arguably better than in New Jersey...) He can't play the 3.
I just hope Kevin keeps playing good enough for us to trade to a real contender. Get some pics, lose some damn games and yes, gauge Williams' game with a lot of minutes - a win/win no matter what happens.
If he was a good shooter, he won't dribble it around, stand around on offense, he still would miss some assignments at times but he would at least see MINUTES. He is somewhat a poor shooter most of times, looks to pass it too much, doesn't quite understand the ways of WINNING BASKETBALL. and plus he is a heckler on TWITTER.
