Your right about muscle memory but this is a slowed down shot where you can use cues to do it right. The muscle memory plays a bigger part when your playing at full speed. Again, if somebody would teach him or if he would listen he could easily shoot in the mid 60's yet this year.
I honestly think that every NBA player should shoot above 60% and there's no excuse not to, but somehow there are always multiple starters in the league who don't, some of them superstars. I don't get it but it is true.
If you look at Parsons missed FG shots, his ball goes everywhere. It is almost like the catcher/the rim is getting a knuckle-basketball. When someone get in Martin's face, the missed shot is usually an airball, or when PPatterson misses, the ball usually bounces high. It is his mechanic and he doesn't get too many FT attempts. I really did not know he was shooting 30% until that OKC game, funny how other teams will be playing Hack-A-Shaq with Parsons.
I get your point. Every player in the league has their Achilles heel when it comes to being perfect in the game. This is Parsons Achilles heel. Every other part of his game is really every good except for free throw shooting. I can tell he has been working on it, and his overall shooting skills. He will one day shoot around 72%. Bank on that. Oh.. wait... i did not say 72% for this year. It will take him a year or more it get there..But he will improove. And his midrange shot will get better too. zzpot
You my friend are RIGHT ON THE BUTTON!! CON GRATS!! There is a video showing a Rox coach saying the same thing ...and yes you can see it in game play if you are looking for it... The ball goes Left.. the ball goes right.. the ball is long left.. the ball is long right .. the ball is short left and right!! Yep the ball is all over the place. The nice thing is.. Parsons has a good stoke and is not forcing his shot... The bad thing is he pushes the shot left and right when he shoots it...uuuggghlllly... his range on the shot is damn near perfect.. he just pushes it off target. He has bad foot work... and that sets up a bad left or right of target rhythmic stoke... ball goes all over the place... But... when he sets his feet in rhythm he can rip the nets on a 3... I'm sure he will get better in all of his shooting and shots. He is way ahead of the game when it comes to D and being in the right place at the right time... Just keep moving and don't stand still... Just move 2 inches and don't stop moving!! zzpot
He's a below average shooter and below average touch around the rim and average ball-handler, so I wouldn't say "every other part of his game is good except his free throw shooting". He's a very good defender, very good rebounder for a SF, good at moving around without the ball on offense and overall effort level, and a good passer. Classic "glue guy" skillset.
During the boradcast the other day Bullard said it looked like he had too much arm and not enough wrist...
If all it took was hard work and practice, then MJ would have shot over 90% for his career and over 40%+ from three. Same goes for Kobe. Let's not make it about a lack of work ethic, especially if we're talking about a 2nd round pick who most thought wouldn't even make the team. I can't imagine Parsons decided to work hard on the difficult parts of the game and didn't care for free throws.
I wonder if he's trying to change his form so it'll start going in more. Kind of like how you suck after adjusting your golf swing. His form seems fine to me, I've seen far worse.
