wasn't even visually stunning. unless you consider an amalgamation of windows screensavers stunning. this was possibly the worst, most indulgent movie ever created.
Drive (95%) - One of the most well-crafted films i've seen in years. Unique and stylized, but not the least bit pretentious. Flawlessly executed concept. Loved it. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (70%) - Just barely passable for me. I'm sure part of that had to do with the fact that I wasn't viewing it in the theater, but at its core it just felt flat to me. I also couldn't help being distracted by the CGI. Surprisingly, I thought Caesar's 3D model was the least convincing of all.
Drive: 7/10 - Nicely paced, well shot. 50/50: 8/10 - Some good humor, sweet, well-done film. Colombiana: 2/10 - Both points for Zoe Saldana's hotness. There's no other quality to this film.
The Descendants (2011) 5/10 Solid performances by Clooney and Shailene Woodley are wasted on a boring movie that looked like it was made by Lifetime. This road movie has been done before successfully in Sideway; it did not work this time in spite of the Hawaiian location. Too many clichés, characters I don't care about, and a forced and mawkish plot make me hope this picture doesn't win the Best Picture Oscar. Note: Hollywood loves to depict helpless parents having no authority/respect with children that can curse at them and get away anything.
Just started prison break and watched the first 6 episodes in the last 2 days. This series is amazing and I have no idea why I haven't seen it before.
Moneyball (72%) - I thought it was a good movie, but it was far from perfect. One specific complaint is the decision to bring in real scouts to play the scouts in the movie. I realize it was an attempt to be authentic, but I think when you bring in "real" people and ask them to act, they authenticity goes out the window and you're just left with bad acting. I also have a strong dislike for baseball in general, so that knocks the movie down a peg right off the bat (pardon the pun). In the end, it was a good performance by Pitt and I don't regret spending a couple of hours watching it. Just not something I'll be adding to my DVD collection.
I would not give Planet of the Apes 95%. All I meant was Drive was boring at times. It had potential to be great, and it would be much better if they cut out 25 minutes. It seems like the director didn't want to take anything out and use the deleted scenes feature because he needed every minute to make the movie 100 minutes long rather than a short 90 minute movie Planet of the Apes - 7/10 Drive - 7.3/10 It agree. Don't watch it if your expecting a Disney ending.
Safe House 6/10 Denzel is too old to be playing the "cool agent" guy. Also his character's last name is "Frost"....... Really?
Winter's Bone - 6.5/10 Not bad, but not all that great either. They could've cut out a good 20 mins of the movie and it probably would have flowed a lot better.
It's really strange to me that you would be concerned over the last name of the character. What's wrong with that last name?
