So many Lin fans, and people bashing Daryl Morey. Most of these posters have done a good job countering their arguments.

You were right about the Morey Gestapo. They really went on the offensive in this thread. It's funny how membership in the Morey Gestapo overlaps with membership in the Battier Gestapo. The characteristics are the same as well: blind support, hero worship, and personal attacks against anyone who dares criticize either of them.

I have a question, and hopefully someone can answer it:

If we had kept J. Lin, what would have happened? A ton of DNP-CDs? Cut when Adrien was cut?

Maybe Morey needs to hire this guy:

In May 2010, an unsung numbers hobbyist named Ed Weiland wrote a long-term forecast of Jeremy Lin for the basketball website Hoops Analyst. At the time, Lin was a lightly regarded, semi-known point guard who had completed his final season at Harvard. But Weiland saw NBA material. He emphasized how well Lin played in three nonconference games against big schools: Connecticut, Boston College and Georgetown. He noted how Lin's performance in two unsexy statistical categories—two-point field-goal percentage (a barometer of inside scoring ability) and RSB40 (rebounds, steals and blocks per 40 minutes) compared favorably with college numbers put up by marquee NBA guards like Allen Iverson and Gary Payton. Weiland concluded that Lin had to improve on his passing and leadership at the point, but argued that if he did, "Jeremy Lin is a good enough player to start in the NBA and possibly star."

Any chance Morey outbids the Knicks for Lin's services in the offseason? The Knicks can only offer 5mill.

They could, but it would be difficult. They would need a team with significant cap space to absorb enough salary to make a better offer to Lin.

For instance, if the Rox wanted to facilitate this, they could offer Martin and Scola for Chandler and Melo. There would be a salary deficit of about 10 million there. They then could offer 8-9 million to Lin by my estimation.

The Rockets will be bidding on other players, mainly big men. We're just pretty set at PG.

Would have been nice to have Lin though so we could dangle Goran.

I dont know if anyone else heard Kenny Smith on ESPN radio today, but he took shots at Morey and McHale indirectly. TWill would have loved it.

Pretty sure the Rockets can't offer more than the MLE for Lin, since he is only in his second year.

    August 10, 2011 - Houston lands 2013 NBA All-Star game.

Let me repeat, August 10, 2011 - Houston lands 2013 NBA All-Star game.

David Stern did not give us the All-Star game because of the trade-that-wasn't.

You think so? I think he was talking in general but I guess I could see how it's taking a shot at them.

[rquoter]...The great thing about this story for me is, to be a great coach or a great GM, I dont think you don't have be an Xs and Os person, a great one. I dont think you have to have a great relationship with your talent. You have to be able to evaluate talent. That's numero uno. If this guy is (jumping?) off everyone's radar and he's been in your practice facility working and he can do this in a NBA game, you just dont have a great idea of how to evaluate talent. That means your drawing up plays for the wrong guys, that means having conversations with the wrong guys. The number one thing for a coach is recognizing who your talent is on your team.

    ...

Was there ever a player you played against that you thought had more talent than his coaches recognized that got buried throughout his career that you always thought deserved a chance like Jeremy Lin?

There are 3 guys on every NBA team that people think that about. I'm telling you right now. David Wesley, who played with Charlotte, made tons of money, great player, got cut from us when he was a Houston Rocket. There are a lot guys you think that about and you know that. They just dont get the opportunity as well. Jeremy didnt kick the door in, he blew it away. Not many guys blow it away but there are guys sitting on NBA benches saying "See, I'm telling you, they don't know how to evaluate talent up here."[/rquoter]

LIN lighting it up on National TV. I am waiting for him to fail one game but he is playing at an all-star level.
