Thank you for proving my point. That's a perfect example of what I mentioned with the fear of affirmative action causing the problem rather than affirmative action itself. This is exactly what I talked about in this thread. The fire department got scared when no black employees passed the test so they scraped the test results. I don't expect esteban to understand that I mentioned earlier that people's fear of running afoul of affirmative action has caused more damage than affirmative action. Had affirmative action been properly applied this would never have happened.
Government is very rarely "properly applied". Liberals just can't grasp that reality above their idealism. They always chalk up failures to poor execution and so on..."if everything ran just right with the right people always in charge we would have a utopia" but it never does so the finger pointing and blame game begins - and of course more government is needed to fix what is wrong.

Socialogically, instances like these are unfortunate byproducts of the policy. Not sure i can completely digest the distinction regarding the Michigan Law admission case. Technically i get the ruling but it's hard not to equate getting into a top tier law school w/a prized internship at XXX firm.
It definitely can affect someone's ability to get a job, but it's an indirect effect rather than a direct one is all. Maybe it's a small distinction.

It's cool. I like the way you back up what you believe, and provide the back up. While it isn't proof directly it does show the common belief that's what affirmative action does. And that may be inherent and it is a problem and leads to things like the New Haven Fire Department issue. But that being said I haven't seen a better fix to the problem offered.
