They practically had it last year but they rested their starters down the stretch and the Bulls (competing for home court in the East) overtook them. Didn't matter in the end as they were eviscerated by the 8th seed Grizzlies. Fun times.
I don't see them ending with a top 5 seed. They have proved me wrong all year but I have no idea how! Even in their 2 wins against us they got bailed out by the refs and really didnt deserve the win IMO. I haven't looked at their schedule so far but I don't think it has been very tough! But even if the have home court, they are to old to play a series as they showed last year.
I think Tony and Manu have been legit. Duncan could be the X factor. And their bench is a fluke IMO. not playoff proven. Fun times indeed.
what you have to like about the spurs is that Duncan is still a top defensive center and rebounder in the league. They also have added younger talent to their team year after year, so I strongly feel that they have a few years of contention left as I don't see duncan losing his ability any time soon. He can probably play at this level up to age 38.
I think we want the Spurs to hit that 2nd or 3rd seed. Would be the best matchup for us in the first round.
I will take my chances with them over running the offense through Duncan. He is still a match-up problem for us, even toating around that cane.
I know the Grizzlies beat the Spurs last year but their offense revolved around Manu who was significantly hurt. This year they've gone to Tony Parker a lot and he has played really really well. And the Grizzlies did take the Thunder to 7 close games so it's not like they weren't a good team.
This team is gonna get their asses kicked by a lower seeded team like Minny or Denver or Portland in a 7 game set....AGAIN
According to Hollinger; Spurs record has been 5th TOUGHEST in the league. Also, most games played without Manu - arguably their best player. WCF is the ceiling, IMO.
we can't criticize the Spurs that much, they are in our own division and face the same teams we do. Dallas lost a 1st round series against Golden State one year. If the Spurs are healthy I think they can make to the Conference Finals. Parker has been playing great.
Depending on matchups and how worn out they are. Legit? Yes.... but in the WC you play possibly 6 to 7 games in a series. I still would take a young dynamic duo or a young Big Three- Miami? over an aging one. Props to Spurs. They are going for the best record again.
Looks like the Spurs will have another great regular season and I give them credit for that. Even if Manu is healthy in the post-season, I just don't see them winning 3 playoff series and making the Finals.
I didn't even read the OP's post...but if you start a thread thinking the spurs have any chance at the title you're effin high. Duncan is waaaaay too old and gino and parker are too old also...they have a team that have no hunger (because of past success) and too much age...not a good combination. Duncan was their best player...who's their best player now? Parker? They have a bunch of vets that can play well in the regular season when they need to...but when it comes to the playoffs they'll get run out of the gym like they have been lately. They've had their time...it's over... San Antonio is going to have to start tanking like they did in 97 if they ever hope to stiff another title in the next 20 years.
