I'd like to see the posts saying he has no talent or flat out sucks. I don't recall seeing many of those type of comments. I know I definately didn't make any comments like that.
Talent and on-court performance is the pre-requisite of everything, but other factors are involved as well.
Why? NYC is not some sort of NBA aristocracy like most New Yorkers mistakenly think. The NBA is better and more entertaining when the Knicks suck. I hate Stern but the league was just fine before Jeremy Lin started playing well and even when the Knicks were not relevent.
What are you talking about? How does him having 4 subpar quarters not make him a good player? Tons of players have bad stretches. Maybe if you had read why I said that you would have figured out that I wasn't saying it to downplay his ability.
He was referring to 4 quarters from two separate games. Lin was not good for a majority of the Raptors game but finished strong. Any game where you have 8 turnovers, miss three free throws in a row in the 4th in a close game and don't shoot well for a majority of the game is subpar to me. He finished strong which matters the most but his bad play for most of the game should have cost them the game but the Raptors choked and only scored 12 in the fourth. Amazing first four games but the last two have been far from great.
Shooting 45% from the field with that many points isn't bad at all. I'll give you the turnovers and missed free throws though.
At first I was upset Rox released him... but nobody knew.... Great story for knicks..... Bad luck for Rox!!!!!! Ugh.....
You talking about the "Pick 5" on league pass BB? I saved my last team pick until yesterday and added the Knicks. Glad I saved one. lol
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6593129&postcount=44 So when Kobe scores 33 pts on 45.5% shooting, has 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 7 turnovers in a loss, that's a great game. But when Lin scores 27 points on 45% shooting, has 2 rebounds, 11 assists, and 8 turnovers in a win, that's a subpar game? Interesting...
Its fine that you dont find the differences between the Jeremy Lin story and Flip Murray to be compelling, however that doesnt negate the fact that very very many people do. Perhaps the distinction of being the first full Asian American to play in the NBA since the mid 1950's is a minor footnote or hype for you (due to Yao, Yi and a handful of other foreign players) but I guarantee you, its an enormous and yes even "historical" distinction for thousands if not millions of people around the world. Likewise the fact that he is the first Harvard player in the NBA since the mid 1900's is a compelling fact for many people. That distinctions is probably more historic to most than Bowen or Rodmen being from American International or Southeast Ok state, atleast to those not from those colleges or locale. The reason is simple, Harvard is the oldest longest tradition college in the country, its one of the most if not the most prestigous, best-known, elite institution in the nation. Of course as with Lin being AA, not everyone will care about this, but like many others, I find Lin being the first Harvard player in 60 years a compelling part of the story. Yes the fact that Lin scored more points in his first 5 starts than any player since the aba merger is historic, just as the fact that Hakeem was the last player to compile a quadruple double is a historical fact in the NBA. It doesnt mean you have to care about, but again for many its a part of a great story. The fact that Lin plays in NY, that the mass media, nba, television and broadcasting business have been driving this is of course a large part of the story, but behind the pr, hype and mass attention, is a real true to life story that resonates with millions of people. If Jeremy Lin's story isnt something you "haven't seen before" or of interest, C'est la vie... but I'm going to enjoy this entertaining ride for as long or as short as it continues.
yao was the number 1 draft pick and sucked in his first few starts. flip murray scored 123 in his 5 games in 03-04 season. not sure it's his first 5 starts even if its, shaq did better. and lin did even better. if it's not done before, it's historic. and flip murray isn't asian. if mario elie and rodman had the starts like lin did, i'm sure they would've got more press. and again they aren't asian. see above. his 136 pts in the 5 starts is the one thing you have never seen before? it's the combination of his backgrounds and the events leading up to his historic performances that's never been seen before. and outside of lebron and kobe, what anyone else has done in the league probably has been done before. i guess there's nothing excited about NBA players for you outside of lebron and kobe.
