he used to rely on that pump fake to get going if his shots weren't falling...now he can't do that anymore

Even without the pump fakes and such, he is still a good shooter. I think he is purposely playing like crap.

Martin is the softest player on the Rockets by far and one of the softest in the NBA. From his "don't break your wrist" shooting form to his non-existent defense the dude is diminishing returns personified. One might even say he's:

Missed the days when he actually cared to flop
Would be acting without getting any resonance back.

    $250,000
    $650,000
    $700,000
    $750,000

This is approximately how much money Kevin Martin has/will save on state income taxes since coming to the Rockets from California.

OP didn't say he was playing bad intentionally, maybe he's just low on confidence for now.

We had a conversationabout this very subject on one of the Texans forums .... The income tax issue is very commonly mis-understood as a perk to play for a specific team.

For the record - Players pay taxes determined by what state the game is played in. He saves income tax on all games played in Texas (or other states that have no state income tax) while he pays state income taxes to those states that have an income tax for games played within their borders.

A professional athlete needs a good CPA come tax time .....

I thought the same thing. Maybe not purposefully doing it, but his subconscious may be holding him back as he fears being traded again.

This! Though, it would suck if he is actually planning this. Keep in mind, he has a guaranteed contract. Meaning, he will be paid here or somewhere else.

He is not intentionally playing bad. What Martin is doing is giving up. He knows the offense is not designed for him to succeed and he's not willing to try to adapt. There's a disconnect between McHale and him. And Martin is fine with petering out and is expecting to be traded. He's playing like a player that is anticipating being traded.

Oh, by the way, our offense does...suck. Doesn't matter if we've scored the 9th most points. It sucks.

When you really think about it, look at martin and his fg%. The only thing that ever saved him was fts. Now that he's not getting fts, look at those shooting % again. Poor shotter who can't create own shot or under stress andnot getting fouled. What do you have? Martin this season,no surprise.

Poor shooters don't shoot 90% from the charity strife.
