why is there even a thread about this? gawd, of COURSE melo should be traded. they need to surround Lin with pick and roll bigs. /thread
interesting take. hard to imagine he can put his ego and fame aside, but we will see i suppose. interesting/shocking comment by d'antoni earlier today: "It isn't his (Lin's) team yet, but it's getting pretty close". the kid just finished a 10-day contract. craziest sports story in a while.
He did do well in the USA team, I agree. But you have to remember when you cite the nuggest, while he was a special player there and he still individually is great, but hes not a good fit for this team. When eh left the nuggets they did great and even Gorge karl went on about how the ball is moving now so on.
No, I think the Knicks should trade Lin for Flynn and/or Dragon, depending on how the salaries match.
If Lin continues to play how he does, the knicks won't be able to afford him as you can't use Bird rights on a minimum player.
Doesn't matter if he's minimum or not. Bird rights are for players that stay with a team longer than three years.
Huh? Lin has been in the Knicks for a few weeks. Not even close to 3 years. The other poster was correct that Knicks can't afford Lin. Isn't he on some crappy 10-day contract or something? Maybe Lin will sign for the minimum out of loyalty to the Knicks for giving him the chance.
????????????????????????? Where do you see in the CBA that a team can't use Bird rights on a minimum player?
Time to adjust to the new system and get down with a new role as an offball-guy that shoots off screens or gets the ball in clutch situations to go iso in GIVEN moments. Don't dumb my statement down to "adjust how to play", that's not what I've said and I hope you're smart enough to know it.
In order to keep Lin from leaving via FA, you trade Amare for Jamison (exp.contract) and Tristan Thompson. They have money to sign Lin along with money for more depth and Thompson could be their future PF. Cavs get someone for Kyrie to play a 2-man game with.
I would trade Amare before I traded Melo. They both don't play , at least Melo can get to the basket and create a shot for himself or others (if he so desires). Amare is nothing without a Steve Nash type pg and Lin is not Nash. As happy as I am for Lin, and how much I would prefer he be our 3rd string than Flynn, I'm not jumping on this bandwagon. Everyone in the NBA is capable of putting together a string of good games. He was cut from the Harvard team twice, how does that happen? What wasn't he good at that he was able to change in just a few years. Not just change, but drastically change. The difference between an an athlete cut from Harvard and a NBA prospect is better wide. Was he a bad shooter? A poor attitude? Not strong enough? Something was wrong, call me a pessimist, but I won't be surprised if he falls back down to earth. Let's hope I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first, nor the last time. If I was NY, I would find a way to get Nash. At 38 and just the remainder of the season on his contract it would be a fantastic pickup if they want to make a push this season. However, Nash makes something like 11 mil, and NY doesn't have anyone over like 1.5 other than Chandler, Amare, and Melo. Would definitely need a third team to facilitate.
melo is their superstar he wont and shouldnt go anywhere. if he were to go anywhere i'd love to have him in houston
I think the poster misread articles. I did a Google search and everything seems to say that he was a "twice cut Harvard alum" with the two cuts referring to GS/Houston. Could be wrong but I highly doubt that the two-time All-Ivy player was cut from Harvard twice.
They have the money, Melo should be traded cause he ruins the team the better he individually plays. Last year before he was there Amare played well with Felton. Now they have Lin and if they had Dwight they'd especially win.
If you're gonna trade Melo, you better be getting back a perimeter player who can handle, defend, and shoot...basically 2 out of the three things that I don't see Landry Fields doing very well. A better trade for the Knicks would probably be Amare for James Harden or Joe Johnson or dare I say it, Kevin Martin. I doubt Morey's gonna go back to that well though , especially after the way this Lin thing blew up
