Considering they were 8 games below .500 with the hardest schedule in the entire league coming up soon, how could you think otherwise?

It would have been a hell of a lot better than having Scola and Martin. Do those guys even play basketball anymore?

Stop it. It's the Eastern Conference and Bogut got hurt. The Knicks were going to make a trade and get that 8th seed at worst. 8-15 and down by what? 2-3 games from #8?

They were never going to miss the playoffs. I mean, it was a nice dream, but with Melo and STAT around, it was never going to happen.

They weren't winning because of Stat and Melo! They didn't have any good trade able assets! They were 8-15 with the easiest schedule in the NBA!

    People are happy for Lin.
Nobody is going to hate the man for playing well and breaking stereotypes.
Unfortunate circumstances, but I will cheer him on nonetheless.

So I can't make a case that with NJ, WSH, UTAH, LAL (who is 100% ASS on the road), Minny and TOR on the schedule, they couldn't go 5-1 or 6-0 with STAT and Melo? Unreal.

That tough portion of their schedule be damned. Who would make the playoffs over there? CLE? MIL with no Bogut? [IMG] Hilarious.

The way things were going they were going to miss the playoffs. They were 8-15 with Melo and STAT and looking worse and worse. I don't see any reason why they were going to turn it around.

Understood. But again...look at the comp. MIL and CLE????? That's my point. I would be inclined to agree if Bogut didn't break his ankle.

But you can make the case that they aren't going with 40 games left and down by less than a handful of games for the 8th spot to 2 teams with more injuries than they had? Wow...

Don't bother, the guy obviously didn't watch any NY games with Douglas running the point, either that or he's a Knicks fan.

Exactly. Let's just chill until they actually hit the rough stretch.

I watched 'em, not a Knicks fan, and just wondering why Rocket fans are losing their minds over something that was never going to happen.

I know Douglas = backup PG at best. I figured the Knicks were half of a Point Guard away from being decent(that's how bad it got for them). I saw the Nuggets game where Melo hogged the game away. I saw where STAT was a nothing in a lot of games. List goes on. Losing to crap teams.

All I'm saying is, with the competition around them for the 8th spot, I couldn't see them missing.

Who were they going to trade? Everyone outside of Melo and Amare looked like garbage until Lin came along.

You keep saying that the competition for the 8th seed in the east is weak but they were becoming one of those weak teams WITH Melo and Amare. Had Lin never came along it is safe to assume that they would have lost the last 5 games easily since he has carried that team.

I'm not saying I don't agree with them being "weak", I'm just saying they wouldn't have been "dead to rights".

Why can't it be "safe to assume" that they wouldn't have turned it around? Lost to the Wiz and Nets? Just like you guys, I'm stating opinion, and I couldn't see them missing the postseason. Check those 2 one-possession losses to CHI and BOS. Should have been a sign that the slumping Knicks were starting to chip away. They dropped a ton of 1-2 possession games en route to the 8-15 start.

Well it's certainly not crazy to assume that they would have missed the playoffs either. Sure they lost a lot of close games but so do a lot of bad teams. The Warriors have been in close game after close game and tend to lose them. Also that bad teams usually bring their best when playing the best teams any ways.

But I don't see them starting to chip away back in it because they would have been in a huge hole if it had not been for Lin. Melo just got hurt and Amare was out, those last 5 games would have been nearly locks for the opposing team had it not been for Lin and would have likely been 8-20. Right down there with the bottom 10 teams in the league.

I guess they could have squeaked in at 8 but also it's hard for teams to get out of a losing habit in the middle of season and much easier for teams to just start going through the motions and looking forward to next season. Things were starting to spiral out of control.

And you would 100% on the money, my man, on things starting to spiral out of control. I would think they squeak out a game or 2, MAYBE a 3rd with TOR being so God awful. That's not to say that you might be on to something with that whole 8-20 thing. THAT would have been ugly, and a strong possibility. Had that happened, some of us would still being going nuts thinking "Stern's going to screw us again and give NY the #5 pick", lol.

It's tough to shake losing habits, true. However, I can't help but think games like NJ, WSH and TOR would have been Ws. A lot of players have a ton of pride. Lin is indeed carrying them, I will roll with you guys on that. Just wasn't buying them missing the POs.
