It actually was. The Hornets may have 2 lotto picks in a deep draft, including 1 top 4 pick (currently the 2nd worst record), and caproom. Even if they get peanuts for Gordon (doubt he signs a 1 year deal) they still may have a better future than we do this summer.

Hornets are in full tank mode. They'll keep Gordon because he is an RFA and has no choice but to come back.

Unless Indiana, team from his home state, overpays for him (which they'll try; they have the cap space).

Stern really poked himself in the poo-hole on the trade he allowed. So he calmed down a few whiny owners (Cuban, who had ulterior motives, thinking he might lose a shot at Howard, as well as watching the Lakers improve; Gilbert, who sux dog b***s anyway; Michael Jordan, who crafted an awful team so he could draft high). And he created must-see TV with the new-look Clippers.

But no one wants to play in New Orleans. They're a shell of what they were. It's almost like he's trying to contract the Hornets from the league. (I know he's not; but his "we want an NBA team to succeed in a city where the people with money only care about the Saints" is, well.......nice, but misguided.

Anyway, who am I to say anything? My team is next-to-last in attendance.

The Hornets have the right to match any offer, and they have loads of caproom. They will keep Gordon or get something for him via trade.

And if no one wants to play in NO, then the best thing to do is tank and lock up potential studs who have no choice.

I would agree, but Eric Gordon can't stay healthy to save his life. I just wouldn't feel great about committing to a long term contract with him.

The best deal would have been not trading Paul.

But then he walks at the end of the year, and instead of 2 lotto picks you probably have none.

That doesn't sound like "basketball reasons".

Getting 2 lotto picks isn't basketball reasons? It's called rebuilding. I wish our owner would get the memo.

If your goal is to lose games, that doesn't count as "basketball reasons".

It does if you are rebuilding and choose to do it via the draft.

Man are you stubborn. NO, basketball reasons has a very specific meaning. It DOESN'T mean turning your basketball team into complete ****. Jesus. Not sure why you insist on giving a bunch of owners who know nothing about putting a team together so much slack. All they wanted to do was keep Chris Paul away from the Lakers.

You are the one saying getting picks to rebuild isn't basketball reasons but I'm stubborn?

If you are rebuilding through the draft then you have to turn your team into complete **** to have a better chance at a high pick. Rockets fan's should know this, since we did it twice. If you are in a city that won't attract free agents then odds are the best way to build your team is through the draft, and NO has a good chance at 2 lotto picks. If you wanna believe it was a grand conspiracy to keep CP3 out of LA go ahead. I'll believe the story about the league wanting to make the team attractive to a buyer and not get stuck in mediocore-ville like us, since those two things kinda make perfect sense.

Chris Paul on the team makes them the most attractive for a buyer. Which is what I said in my first post in the thread.

Yeah if he would actually agree to stay. But since odds are that he wouldn't....

I don't think any buyer is more enticed by having CP3 for a strike shortened season.

Star talent FA who wants to leave NO and has to have athroscopic surgery? Yeah I'm sure the prospective owners are lining up to buy NO right about now

So Gordon was already damaged goods when he was traded.
