Because Rick is the boss. Hershel is an old man who just downed a lot of liquor. That was actually a really good scene and did some character development for us. In that moment, a tense crisis moment where everything was in jeopardy, Rick handled it while Glen fumbled around and Hershel was too scared to speak.
I like that scrapped idea, too. It would've satisfied The Walking Dead readers who have been salivating for an action-centric episode which the source material is based, as well as casual zombie fans. It's also a fresh idea that isn't anywhere in the source material. There's nothing wrong with catering to the target crowd. Instead, we get Twilight with zombies.
Real shame that Darabont wasn't allowed to do what he wanted, sounds like it would have been awesome.
the "wild card" approach a la LOSt would have been epic. random flashbacks to the apocalypse/outbreak, that's what I was hoping for before I read that article. the web series focused on the bicycle zombie, this would have been another substoryline that reintroduces another zombie from season 1 , and they are worried about "essential to the story"? they have spent season two doing entirely pointless missions into town and arguing who should or should not go on said missions. it's complete filler until they leave the freakin farm.
Exactly. Leave Hershel in peace. Have him a nice shot or 2 or 3456 of whiskey and worry about his daughter that was scratched on the back of the neck and is now turning into a walker.
i was referring to when Rick said "we need hershel for this baby". If the crew do decide to hit the road again, i'm not so sure Hershel will go along...although maybe he will want to leave the bad memories behind. who knows.
I don't think there is any chance we are going to be done with Hershel soon, nor do I think there is much chance they leave the farm soon, nor do I think there is any chance that the car accident/Lori situation gets wrapped up quickly. They may discover her next episode, but it will be multiple episodes dealing with her being hurt, did she lose the baby, etc. I expect this entire season will be pinned down on the farm. Edit: Although I don't see why it would make sense yet for them to leave the farm anyway. They have no reason to leave until they are forced off or have reason to believe there is a better opportunity somewhere else.
I know. By her not having the baby they can let him be and have his farm back in peace. They outstayed their welcome already Shane killed whats his name, opened the barn it's too much going on there. It's time for them to move along. But if Lori and or her baby doesn't die then they will be bound to the farm for the rest of the season if she needs medical attention adding more drama. I just want to see hardcore zombie action. Is that too much to ask in life?
^ well I agree. I don't mind some good old fashioned drama but at some point it gets old and i just want some good old fashioned surrounded-by-zombies-run-and-shoot-your-way-out action.
Looks like we'll get a shoot out at the bar next episode. And I just don't see this group leaving the farm just because Herschel told them too. Shane is the type of guy where you're going to have to physically make him leave. Dale is the pushover you can tell to leave, who then will clean your house and mow your lawn on his way out...only after he pervs on more people with his binoculars.
I don't disagree that I'm ready for real zombie action, I'm just not going to get my hopes up on that end. I could see them bound to this farm the entire season with the zombie action coming when they have to make another medical supply run or something and then maybe the season ending with a horde of zombies storming the farm, people dying and them deciding this meant they needed to move on.
They should stop treating the town like its an actual town and just bring several people with several vehicles and loot the entire place.
So much better..you're taking one of the many flashback cold opens they do throughout the series and extending it to a full episode. Often those flashbacks are the best parts. I do not get why Darabont gets **** on so much. His script for Indy IV was way better than the crap that appeared on screen. Mind boggling. Something that I thought about...they don't technically need Hershel to have the farm. If he dies, the farm is still there. So Rick's logic of getting him because they need him to stay on the farm wasn't that sound. He could have just said to Lori that if their son needs a compassionate father figure in his life, then what kind of person would he be if he let Hershel to die out there with the zombies. Oh well.
That Darabont season 2 open would've been much better. As for Rick going out to bring back Hershel, I thought they were bringing him back more for his medical knowledge than than the fact that he owns the farm. That girl had a fever, and no one else would have any clue how to deal with it.
They were..but I thought I remember him telling Lori that he's going after Hershel for the baby's sake, or something to that effect.
