Not true. Morey would trade for Dwight in a hot second without an extension. Just for the chance to convince him to reup and bring in DWill.

If he wanted to play in Dwill so bad, he would go to NJ. They have the space and they already have Dwill.

That's what he will do unless he gets traded somewhere that can sign DWill outright and the team is ready to compete with those two pieces...enter Houston.

When did it become our job to help facilitate trades that help others reload while sending us into the crapper?

Here is the only way I would do the trade. We send Lowry, Scola and some scrubs for Dwight. We then sign Dwill in the off-season. I want to keep Kmart because he would be outstanding playing with those two because he would never have to create for himself.

    We would essentially have

    D-will, scrub/draft pick
Kmart, Lee(if we can sign him for reasonable contract)
    Parsons, Bud, Morris
    D-mo, Ppat, Morris
    Howard, D-mo, scrub

Am i the only one who would pull the trigger on this deal? My only reservation comes from an emotional perspective; i'd hate to see Scola in a Fakers uniform. That said:

Martin is not worth his contract and is a one-dimensional player
Scola does not play defense and has a hefty salary (although i think it's fair value)
Dragic is a free agent; we can try and sign him back this offseason
Parsons is a nice player, but he's a role player, and those are a dime a dozen

We have almost half our salary tied up in Martin and Scola. Pau gives us more cap flexiblity, can play center and PF, and is better than either Martin or Scola. Also, I am a big fan of aquiring 1st round picks. Look what Morey does with them (even late first rounders). He gets players like Dontas, Parsons, Brooks, Landry ...etc. It would also give us another pick to package in order to move up in the first round.

At the end of the day, this trade would give us an all-star and versitile PF/Center, give us more salary flexibility, and give us another pick to package to get a Rudy Gay type player. We're going no where with Scola and Martin. We need to shake things up. And for all you who want to point to our record and disagree, you can't honestly say that we are even close to being a championship contender. Keeping half the payroll invested in scola and martin will handicap us from becoming championship contenders.

    I would do this deal.

That is true, KMart would be great next to Dwight and DWill. But alas, if it costs us KMart to get the other two, you still do it.

Here is the tough question. Would you give up Dmo as one of the fillers if there are no guarantees Howard stays. I think that is where I would draw the line. Not because I think Dmo is a great player. However, I do believe that he is the only player we have that could become special. Now if Howard says he would sign an extension, then I would give up anyone.

I think Morris in time is going to pan out just fine too.

that package would get you nowhere fast...

I have no problem selling the farm on an opportunity like this...the way this team is constructed, for every player we value, there is another capabale replacement waiting in the wings and chomping at the bit to play.

We gave up the farm to get Tracy, and how long did it take to get a competent team around him? We can't give up everyone for a potential rental. We need some players to keep Howard interested. Now if Howard committed to extension then of course we give up the farm. Howard is the best center in the NBA and can carry a team.

    http://www.clutchfans.net/teams.cfm?season=2005

it took them an offseason to bring in some vets (Sura) and a couple trades before X-Mas to enhance depth (Wesley/Barry), and a deadline deal (James).

    then this happened...

and honestly, I think we would have more assets to put pieces around Howard than we did in 04/05

That's a tough question for me to answer. I personally believe we are hiding DMo because we think he has great potential. It would be difficult to unload both DMo and PPat in my opinion. I think PPat is going to have a Horace Grant type career. Would hate to lose both guys for Dwight and don't see why Orlando would want both guys instead of a player at a different position.
