Aw yeah apples want to play the patent war. Well Googorola say bring it!! Since martin cooper invented the cellphone while working for motorola. Hmmm that patent would be helpful the next time apple wants to say you copied the screen size. Now google can come back and say you copied the cellphone. Lmfao! Might as well buy out tmobile now that you have the software and hardware. Give us service too.

I hope the deal really changes the culture over at Motorola Mobility. I really think they need to in order to remain competitive with other Android manufacturers. They've got to stop releasing so many damn devices, do something about their locked boot loader policies, and stop marketing these "droids" as these super high tech futuristic phones that in reality, the average consumer doesn't know how to use to it's full potential.

They've gotten better lately so we shall see. I definitely expect there to be some close collaboration somewhere. Perhaps a Motorola "Nexus" .

Now for those of you who don't know, Google is only purchasing "Motorola Mobility" , not the entire company. However, being affiliated with Motorola might make an impact some day with "Google TV" considering how Motorola is a huge manufacturer of cable set top boxes.

It's also obviously a move for Google to protect itself since Motorola has an extensive patent portfolio. It's a damn shame that everyone is suing each other though.

We need to rewrite copyright law for software and new technology. The whole system is completely out of date. There is an entire industry now devoted to buying up obscure patents in the hopes of eventually selling them to big companies to buff up their patent portfolio in case of lawsuits.

There is an entire industry now devoted to buying up patents just so you can sue companies for "breaching" one of your patents. Not to mention companies buying up patents just to protect from these types of ridiculous lawsuits.

Can't wait to see what Google rolls out with.

If Apple and Google ever merged they would run this world. I don't think Microsoft and Yahoo side with AT&T or else it becomes war for the OS, search engine, and telecommunications market. Google and Apple would need to form a Strategic Alliance and invest in a cell phone company to feature both Google-Motorola and Apple phones....they could buy Verizon/Sprint and build more towers.

The stock price probably makes a little more sense now. The book of faces should take note.

That would be a dream, but not one that's going to come true lol.

Apple doesn't need a carrier to be successful, they've proven that. Not only do they have all carriers by the balls (See Sprint) , but they have a ton of money.

Google does need the carriers, but a lot of them also need them to even remain competitive, especially ones that don't have the iPhone (See T-Mobile) . Plus, they can load up their bloatware on Android. This is totally against Apple's strategy .

Oh, and about someone possibly buying Verizon? Never going to happen. Ask Vodafone. lol.

Someone might buy Sprint though, that still remains a possibility. They may have gotten their track record straightened out a bit in terms of customer service, gaining new subscribers, offering unlimited data, but one thing is for sure, they are losing money.. and fast

I agree with the sentiment that this ups the ante in the patent war, but you gotta admit other hardware makers have copied far more than screen size in their efforts to catchup and blow by Apple.
