My name is James Plowright, from Manchester, England. I am a writer for the Charlotte Bobcats and i am currently researching an article on a number of trade scenarios that would give the bobcats a 2nd lottery pick in this upcoming draft. I know that the best place to find out if a trade would work for both teams is by asking hardcore and knowledgeable fans such as yourselves. :) yes I'm sucking up...
So anyway this is was i came up with: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6so3ucl ---Phoenix would send their 1st rounder to us and we would send Houston a 2nd rounder or two.

Do you think you guys would have any interest in that? You gain more assets in the 2nd rounders, get rid of T-Will who is clearly not happy in Hou, Warrick is a decent offensive pf and DJ White is a more than solid role player who is better than his numbers suggest i can assure you. However i do see that you are gaining two PF which you may not want since you have Scola and PP so is there anyone else you would throw into the trade instead? Anyway it would be great to get your feedback. Thanks

I don't think the Rockets mind trading Jordan Hill and Terrence Williams, but the biggest problem is taking on Hakim Warrick's contract... the Rockets right now are all about cap room and flexibiility, and they lose $4M+ cap room in the deal for essentially 1-2 second round picks.

If you could re-work it to where the Rockets don't take on future salary (unless it's a real asset), then it might work.... otherwise, they'd probably prefer to let Williams and Hill expire.

I would do it if Warrick's contract was an expiring one, and if no draft picks were sent from Houston.

JHill has some value for us because he's our backup center. We don't really need anymore power forwards. We got too many as it is.

The Rox are all about cap space, but after grabbing whatever FAs they can, if they have room for Hill at rates anywhere near what it would have cost to renew him, they will re-sign him. I expect that some team will give him more than that, however. He's not as bad as people here think (for a backup C), and centers come at a premium.

As for the proposed trade, yeah, letting TWill and Hill expire would be better than taking on salary. Those two players we would be getting have the same PERs as Hill, btw. If we can't sign the big-shot FAs we want, DM is not going to make a bunch of foolish signings just to have something to show for his cap space.

In terms of talent the Rockets would take this trade, and for that matter I like it well enough for all the teams (as long as you are willing to give up Augustin for a pick).

However, the Rockets have too many PFs already, Warrick wouldn't be as useful. And as everyone said, a 4 year contract isn't in our best interests.

I donn't think the Rockets has any interest in that trade.

I think the Rockets might try and bring back Jordan Hill at a lower salary.

Clutch is right on the money though, no long term salary. This could change if the Phoenix first was coming to us however.

Everyone's already told you why the Rockets wouldn't be interested in this deal.

    Moreover...

I disagree here. Augustin is a nice player and all, and the Suns pick isn't exactly top 5... but I still can't picture the Suns effectively trading their lotto pick this year for Augustin. He's an average PG. I know the Suns have been looking for the Nash replacement for a while, but you'd have to think they'd want more for this year's lotto pick. Perhaps with some serious protection (top 8 in 2012, top 6 in 2013, top 3 in 2014-2016) they'd do it.

Sorry, what's the point? Who plays the point full time in Charlotteville (as if it matters this season). When do the new Rox ever get off the pine? Suns get what, cap relief?

To me this is a yawner of a non-deal unlikely to prise any draft picks loose from any team.

Besides, what would Michael do with a draft pick - - besides squander it?

I could see Phx wanting DJ they need a future pg, but the Rockets have no interest in those players.

If there was a three way deal with LA Rockets might bite because they have expressed interest in Pau Gasol and DJ would be a huge upgrade at Pg for LA. But I don't think ya'll would be getting a lottery pick in return if we got Pau.

So we pick up 2 power forwards....a position we already have Scola and Patterson filling?

Don't see this happening unless it was part 1 of a further move to bring in a star.

Ultimately, ANY trade that Houston is associated with right now has to have that as a priority.

Another would need to take on warrick. Dj white isn't a bad option though.

Seems not much point to this for Houston basketball-wise. And Warrick's contract is not something the Rockets want to take on.

Also, doubt PHX give up a lotto pick for this package. They do have Aaron Brooks coming back as RFA. Not sure Augustin is better.

Realistically, I don't see you guys getting another lottery pick.

    Here's why:

Augustin is a nice player, but he's not worth a lottery pick.

You could give up Kemba or Biyombo, but I wouldn't suggest it for a late lottery pick.

Otherwise you could take back a big contract, but I don't see one from the low lottery teams worth giving up their pick for, especially since the amnesty option is in existence.

They don't get Brooks because he can come back before the end of this season by accepting the qualifying offer and become unrestricted next year.
