Lock if already posted... So I was out with some buddies and I missed the grammy's...oh wait there's nothing to really miss. Taking a break from Jeremy Lin and knee jerk threads here on my favorite site (clutch fans) I read some recaps online about the grammy's. Recap: - pop stars won (Chris Brown/Taylor Swift) - Whitney Houston Tribute > (which caused performance changes for some ) - Adele and Foo Fighters (favorite band right there) takes in quite a bit grammy's - electronics artists got noticed Dead mau5 and - OH and Nicki Minaj bombed... Share your opinions... Mine our foo fighters rock! Mainstream music is still bad, Adele is talented (but her songs are driving me crazy since they're everywhere) and Rap/Hip Hop (which has been dead) is now worse (it's a Zombie) thanks to acts like Nicki Minaj.
Yep. The industry in a business sense isn't dying but the art form, the heart, the soul is that's why Dave Grohl is the man for accepting a grammy and clarifying that musical not about precision engineered computer sounds/voices/and beats but about the human element of it (heart and mind) oh and congrats to Kanye for winning. The guys talented and is a producer who uses the new fancy gizmos and gadgets but he uses it to make some great songs. (although some pop stuff was churned out to pay the bills)
Grammys are a joke and a popularity contest. I'm surprised Kanye won over Carter IV I guess the Grammys have at least a shred of cred left.
How is the music industry dying? The last two years have had some of the best new releases in the past decade. Saying music is dying, is like saying the movie industry is dying. As long as there are people who enjoy art, there will always be some sort of quality entertainment created.
I'm saying the industry isn't dying in a business sense as it is pulling a profit but it's dying since more and more mainstream artists require less and less talent. And about 3-5 years ago the movie industry was dying- its made a turn but c'mon star wars 1 in 3-D? Overall it's as the expression goes, to each their own, my issue is with the suits and other business guys getting more and more rooted into all genre's of music and building "stars" and "hits" as opposed to them coming from talent.
You are definitely correct about the quality of mainstream music and what passes as acceptable these days. But I think it's more a reflection on the crappy taste of the American public and what is deemed as sellable product by corporate suits. Now more so than ever, the image of the artist often matters more than the actual sound of their music. This often translates into an inferior product being presented to the masses.
The funny thing is that it's not just here. When I was in Spain all I heard were Rhiana and David Guetta songs. David Guetta is like the Walmart of Electronica. He's generic and his sound is just blah. If people want to knock Electronica just remember that there are more complicated sub genres in the scene.
Apparently the Grammy committee decided to conveniently overlook the fact that Bon Iver's 2008 album, "For Emma, Forever Ago" was released like FOUR years ago. It is stuff like this that makes it hard for me to take the Grammies seriously (and I love Bon Iver - just think it is laughable that he is a "new artist").
Foo Fighters swept all four rock categories. I'm not sure whether to congratulate them or flip them off (or their competition). They were the kings of the Grammy awards this year imo. They even got to play two songs. The night may have been about Whitney...but the night really belonged to the Foo Fighters. Fooey. Adele was the queen obviously with her six Grammies.
i think it's pretty weak that bon iver refused to perform. he should of not accepted the award at all rather than this semi-protest.
Grammy organizers wanted him to mash up his songs in a live duet with some other artists like Black Eyed Peas, J. Cole, Nikki Minaj and some other acts.
