Um they would have missed the playoffs had Lin not come there. I like how you're acting like some unknown undrafted pg would singlehandedly save the Knicks' season. If Lin didn't exist you think Davis and that other pg they have+JJ+Chandler would have won 5 games in a row? No, they would have gone 0-5, the pick would slid down to aroudn 7th and we would actually be in danger of losing the pick altogether. Anyway, Lin devaluing the pick might be a blessing in disguise, thanks to him people in NYC are souring on Melo fast, esp. since his game is totally not a fit in D'Antoni's system. They might look to move him, and we're one of the few teams in the league with assets to trade. I'm not a fan of Melo, but considering we play ugly basketball anyway Iso-Melo won't harm the team, and might in fact help us by taking the attention away from Scola, Kmart and Lowry.
I agree this is a blessing in disguise, keeping the Knicks from sliding down too far....and Lin/Melo/STAT/Knicks WILL come back to earth. Perhaps it also keeps them from picking up another PG before the deadline, further cementing their demise.
Here's the thing: I don't think it matters whether Jeremy Lin keeps playing at a statistical "superstar" level and produce at the level he did this past week. He has already ruined the NYK draft pick for Houston even if his play comes down to a Beno Udrih/Goran Dragic-level (which would be close to a "worst case scenario" at this point). Earlier this season, I saw the NYK/MIL game in person and have caught some local MSG broadcasts this season, the whole mood of the team, the coach, and the fans was pretty much depression and anger. Fans were chanting "Lets go Giants!" and "Fire D'Antnoi!" during Knicks games and groaning every time Jared Jeffries touches the ball (or gets into the game). Even the former fan-favorite Landry Fields was catching his share of flak. Last night, I caught the NYK/MIN game in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (hipster-ville) catching the NYK/MIN game, and it was like friggin playoffs in there. Something transformative has already happened to the team (and the fan base), the players are encouraging each other (best I can tell from the TV images) and the fans are actually cheering for the Knicks (including Jeffries!). The karma of the team has totally changed and I don't think Lin has to put-up all-NBA-level stats to sustain it. I don't think either Amare or Melo is capable of disrupting karma, because karma is karma. In other words, that draft picks is already ****ed.
Lakers were clearly gassed from their back-to-back. Wolves aren't a cupcake team but they were in the lotto too the last time I checked. Lin has been balling but the Knicks have been going through the easy part of their schedule. Can we at least see them beat plenty of good teams before we declare him an all-star, say NY is now gonna be a top 4 seed, etc? What they do in March and April should tell the true story.
The same Knicks team would have lost most or likely all of these games even to non-elite teams the way the bad karma was permeating the franchise before Lin's appearance, especially with BOTH Amare and Melo out. I don't know if the Knicks will be a top 4 seed but it sure don't look like they are heading into coach firing, chaos and lottery now. The energy field is totally different now.
A factory of sadness this thread has become. I was really looking forward to draft day on behalf of the knicks and now Lin has ruined everything. everything! Thanks a lot Maury! =/ To ease my pain of missing out on a top 8 pick, knicks better make some noise and eliminate the Heat in post season play. That's the only way I'll personally get over this debacle.
I think you are either overrating karma or underrating Melo's talent in disrupting karma. I still have faith.
CH's point is that the schedule was already "hard" for them before Lin came into the scene. Now all of a sudden it's not hard anymore.
What? The Knicks have had arguably the most favorable schedule in the league thus far. March and April is where the schedule truly gets brutal for them.
You still don't get the point. They were losing to crappy teams with two stars. For a bad team, every game is "hard." Now the Knicks is a different team, so it's not as "hard" as before.
He didnt double though? Unless its not in the GIF but I thought it may have been more of a up and under
