So I'm going around Christmas time. It'll be me, my wife, my 8-yr old son, and my in-laws. So obviously we won't be going to Bunny Ranch or even Tao. The plan is to catch O at the Bellagio and maybe another show. Thinking about Hoover Dam and maybe Grand Canyon and just a lot of walking around looking at neon lights. 1. Is Hoover Dam worth it? 2. Is Grand Canyon worth it? Is the bus ride really long? And what about the skywalk? 3. What other family friendly things can I do? I plan to of course catch any of the free things on the strip like Bellagio water show and Treasure Island show if they still have that.
Free stuff: Bellagio: The garden right beside the lobby is always decorated in a seasonal theme...so you'll probably get the pecan reindeer and tons of other Christmas stuff. Pretty neat place to take family pics. Be sure to keep walking down the hallway after the garden...there's a little french bakery type place that has a neat looking chocolate waterfall. Nothing too time-consuming...just something to stare at and wonder what it tastes like. And of course the fountains. The Bellagio won't run those if it is windy...so try to drop that in during an evening that the winds aren't too bad (we're having a nasty wind storm right now...sustained 25-35mph with gusts up to 55mph). MGM: The lion exhibit is free to check out. Your 8 year old will probably like this. NYNY: Not so much an activity...but it's pretty neat to walk around the "streets" inside. They've designed it to feel like Brooklyn (I guess). There's tons more free stuff to do...just can't thing of anything right now that might be family friendly. As for driving to the Grand Canyon...personally, I've never done it, just make sure that all fees are covered if you're going to the skywalk. That's native american land and from what I understand, they charge quite a bit just to drive into their park. Then you have to pay again to see the skywalk. Definitely do your due diligence on this one. I'll suggest something that's a little different (and it'll pull you away from Vegas for at least half a day. There's a train that goes into the Grand Canyon that departs from Williams, Arizona. But during Christmas, they're doing a Polar Express ride (similar to the Tom Hanks' movie). I'm only bringing this up because we took this trip last weekend and my kids (girl 10, boy 6) absolutely loved it. They dress up in their pajamas and everything tends to go down similar to the events in the movie. http://www.thetrain.com/polar-express-5679.html http://www.thetrain.com/ Have fun...and good luck!
I would bump up my own thread but I can't seem to find it. But what websites can Igo to buy tickets for shows. I don't want to take a chance and wait the day of to buy them. I was looking at http://www.vegasview.com/shows/ and http://www.lasvegasshows.com/ but I don't know how legit they are.
There are some kiosks around the strip that sell discounted tickets, if I'm not mistaken there's one located right outside Flamingo. They have great rep.
All shows, there are several of them, but that's the only one I know where it is for sure. They're an independent company. http://www.tix4tonight.com/locations.html Bill's is right next to Flamingo. I'd check out that site and see what they can offer.
The Elvis and Beatles Cirque are amazing. If you're looking for comedy, and I mean laugh your ass off, I can not recommend Vinnie Favorito any more than I am right now. He plays at the Bugsy Cabaret at the Flamingo, it's a smaller room but it needs to be for his kind of show. His routine is making fun of every member of the audience, so if you're a p***y don't bother, he uses 90% R rated language. It's good though, all improv and, like I said I couldn't recommend him more.
Wife and I are going in September for our birthdays. On a whim yesterday I decided to try Hotwire and ended up at the Trop for $75 a night. Anyone been after the renovations?
"On a whim"? That's a big expense/decision to make on a whim, but I guess it never hurts to try. What are your plans? Shows or just gambling? What do you want to know about the renovations? Is the Trop part of that huge lowered mall that was built a couple years ago?
Trop has some great deals on its own website. The casino is small, but looks nice now. The rooms, from reviews and videos, are nice. The last time I stayed was in the 90's so I can't personally attest to the rooms. I do know that the reno was to make it a Miami style resort. Supposedly, they've done a good job at that, including their pool and night/day club (though, the club isn't making money and trop last I heard was trying to repo it from Nikki Beach inc or something). I do remember them having cool slot promotions like $200 payback if you lose it in a day...check on that. And you might as well try the $20 trick to get a suite if available. Be frank and honest, but tell them you're tipping for good service and it should work out. Lots of hooker still at the reno'd sports bar, but you know, that's Trop for you. Probably still lots of Japanese too unless they've changed ownership in the last two years, which is not a problem with me. And the ceiling lamps on the casino floor look like butt holes, but that's just an observation, not a criticism...well, maybe it is. Edit: lol, well what do you know...googling Trop Butthole lights and there it is
The whim was more we knew when we were going and it seemed like a really good deal, but we weren't planning on booking yesterday. In hindsight, I would've gone with the deal on the Palazzo (had to be that one based on the prices I found on other sites), but oh well. Kim, thanks for the info (and I'll laugh at pic later, it is blocked here)! Considering how much she loves Miami, sounds like my wife will love it. She's not a gambler at all and will be by the pool most of the day. I like getting out and about to gamble/eat anyway, so as long as the rooms/pool are nice, I'm happy. We're spending the first night out at The Westin Lake Las Vegas where we were married. As far as the suite upgrade, I'm going to go with our birthdays being a day apart and hope that sparks some love from the front desk.
I'm going in August with a big group of friends (About 18?)... I'm excited! Anybody got good places to eat that we have to try out? Preferably nothing too pricey.
