Pass on 18.5m/yr to get a 31 yr old guy. 10M/yr more than Scola for an extra 1.5 pts and 4 more boards a night - and thats with the benefit of Kobe pulling constant double teams....
No way in hell. I still don't get this fascination with Gasol. Have you seen him play this year? I bit the bullet and bought NBA league pass because I freaking love basketball so much and have watched many Lakers game. Dude looks tired all of the time, or he's just getting old. Plus, he's now their third option and still looks like he's losing his game. No idea, but do not want. There has to be something better out there.
I thought his production might be down because he's playing with Bynum. But I checked the splits at NBA StatsCube, and his production isn't any better with Bynum sitting on the bench.
He's rarely played with Kobe on the bench (only 94 minutes total this season). And his scoring is down -- shooting only 38% -- in those minutes.
I wouldn't even consider trading for him if we did not have this logjam of 09ers...that we have to get rid of.
move on. the Rockets were the facilitators in a Chris Paul to LA 3 way deal. why give them the asset they need in the pg position? no straight up deal in a season where the underachieving Lakers are worse than the overachieving Rockets...
Gasol looks like he did at the end in memphis when he checked out. The only reason why he hasn't totally checked out is kobe. If he were on a team without a legit superstar, he would've quit like he did in memphis. Lakers are no dummies. They tried to dump him to get paul and they would've had enough to get howard this summer. The rox should kiss sterns pinky ring for cancelling that trade.
^ Agreed. The only reason Pau can't fully check out is because of Kobe who would go ****less on him and is probably always riding his ass about putting in effort on the court.
In a sense, this failed deal has actually worked out in terms of us winning a war of attrition over LA. It seems like, aside from Dragic, every player purported to be in this trade has suffered a demonstrable level of psychologic damage. Scola and Martin are much less good than last year, and Gasol and Odom as well. By almost passing this trade through, we've thoroughly sabotaged LA's chances to do well this year, at the cost of our own team of course but nonetheless a consolation to be had. Who knows if Gasol will ever be the same in LA again. I'm pretty sure Kevin Martin won't be. And Luis Scola might have all the heart in the world, but he's just getting old now and no longer worth his starting position (or at least his usage rate in my opinion). Our depth has saved us, where LA's lack of big man depth has really come through this year. Actually, Odom leaving probably did more damage than anything else. Thanks Stern! You foiled a potential dynasty in LA. Now retire and leave the NBA alone before you turn it into the WWF.
Like Martin, Pau's been playing like crap since the failed trade. We don't need anymore soft players in the paint. His bro would be much better
This is what I'm saying... the 'upgrade' to Gasol from Scola is 1.5 pts and 4 boards this year... and that's WITH Gasol having the benefit of playing with Kobe (and even sometimes Bynum) get double teamed - giving him easier looks! If he's on the Rox, where no one commands a double team, he'll be lucky to put up Scola's numbers at 38%... while we pay him 10M/yr more! PLUS we're gonna give up additional assets to make this swap happen?!?!? The Lakers should be GIVING US additional compensation to take his horrid contract off their hands by giving them expiring contracts! And they want LOWRY?!?!? GTFO! lol
I'd take Gasol probably, but not if it's gonna cost Lowry. To be honest, he's not that much of an upgrade! And I'd like to see scola in one last playoff run with us...
