You say that, yet all through the season you've been arguing against having too many players at the same position. You honestly believe the Rockets should have gone into the regular season with 4 PGs based on what Jeremy Lin showed? All arguments about what the Rockets should have done needs to be prefaced with "In hindsight".
I honestly think the Rockets should keep the best players regardless of contract, and that this whole merry go round of flipping assets is just that....a merry go round. There is no one that can make me believe that Morey is such a dud at evalutating talent that he didn't know Lin was better than Flynn, he knew...and he let him go anyway. If it was a true meritocracy - he would have been kept. And keeping Adrien made ZERO sense, the contract was about the same as Lin - there is no hiding the fact Durv that they blew it on this kid...just blew it. DD
The last roster spot was not between Flynn and Lin. There were 14 guaranteed contracts including Flynn's. Jeff Adrien, Jeremy Lin, and Greg Smith were the players competing for a guaranteed contract. Even if Flynn was in the mix, Jeff Adrien is worth less than Flynn, Lin and Smith.
Assuming he knew Lin was better than Flynn, he had a decision to make. In hindsight yes it's bad, but look at how well Dragic and Lowry are playing right now. Sure, they aren't playing with an insane streak, doesn't mean they aren't incredibly good players capable of starting on their own team respectively. This is all in hindsight.
I'm convinced he believed Lin was better than Flynn. That in itself isn't a good enough reason to just cut a guy making that money. Being a good GM means you need to be able to evaluate talent and be prepared to make moves to upgrade the team. Keeping Lin and throwing away Flynn we'd still be left with THREE point guards. Following your own arguments from throughout the season, that's a bad way to build a team. And again, everything you're saying is in hindsight. Take a step back, reflect a bit, and just admit that.
Did he believe that Adrien was better than Parsons, Patterson, Morris, Budinger, Hill, Scola, Lee, and T-will? Scratch T-will.
Considering that we lacked size for the last 3-4 years, I don't blame him taking up an extra big man when our guard positions are more than solid.
Durv, I believe a bunch of us posted we should keep him, it is not hindsight. Now, I am not sure anyone could have seen what he is doing now...and he would not get that shot here in Houston, but still, Morey and McHale saw this kid every day, and they let him walk for nothing. That does not make me think they are all that great at evaluating talent. DD
This is true. Morey's sin was not that he knew Lin was better than Flynn and still cut Lin. Being better than Flynn didn't warrant a roster spot. (I don't want to start ranting on the evil of guaranteed contract here.) But it is clear now that Lin is not just better than Flynn, he is arguably better than Dragic AND IS DIRT CHEAP. THAT'S what Morey is now kicking himself for.
Do you guys not get it? Lin would have never played here, so there would have been no Linsanity. He wouldn't have been a story at all. He got his opportunity only have after 20+ game of the worse PG play in the history of the NBA, and even then Mr. Pringles was scared of giving him a chance. He's a free agent in the off season, so if we want him, we can go after him. I'm not worried about it. Morey obviously knows how to get "decent" players pretty much any time he wants. Hopefully this season, he will be able to get a superstar. That's all I care about.
