So in less than 24 hours, they've made over ONE MILLION DOLLARS.

I'm too lazy to post a picture of Dr. Evil.

Pretty close to $1.5 mil now. I'd almost be curious to see what the differences in game quality would be with them making the game for $400k and then with the $1.5 mil. It would be interesting to see what they add/enhance.

They do mention what they expect the extra money to provide - more platforms supported, more professional voice acting, more professional music/sound.

Yeah, but they said that before the dollar values really started sky-rocketing. I'm wondering if they were thinking that is what they'd do if they had $100-200k more than they anticipated. Now they're up almost 4 times what they intially wanted. Surely that much extra money can buy more than just voice acting and music, right?

Just an update on this project for those of you who don't know...

The game has been in a bit of development hell (well...really "normal game development," but gamers rarely see/know about this). Despite getting ~$3M (much more than they originally expected), the game is over-budget and taking much longer than expected to finish.

If nothing was done, the game would not be ready until 2015. Continuing with that plan, they would run out of money (both Kickstarter funding and funding from other games/business moves) before completion, and they would probably have to cut content (among other things).

To avoid this, Double Fine has decided to release the game in 2 parts. Part 1 will be released in January 2014 (well...somewhere around then anyway ;)). Revenue gained from sales of Part 1 will help fund Part 2, which should be released later in the year. Backers will get both parts of course (won't pay anything more), and they'll still get early access and all that.

This has been a bit of a story in the game industry. Personally, as one of the backers, this is fine with me. It would have been better if the project was better managed (although they were noting these problems months ago), but at the end of the day, I just want an excellent adventure game. And Broken Age does seem pretty nice so far. Honestly, I've gotten my money's worth just watching the development videos (which they definitely are over-delivering on).

Several Kickstarter projects have hit some walls here and there (with various degrees of good/bad news). Seems like making games is hard.

Not gonna lie. I posted this without reading, then I read and saw this was a thread from a year and a half ago. Still think video is a bit relevant though :)
