Exactly. PG is the Lakers' biggest weakness. Laker fans on sports radio are clamoring for Lowry/Dwill more than Howard.
ok ok ok ok ok i got it. Martin, scola and flynn like one poster suggested buttttt we take any bad contract they want to get rid off and we'll throw in our first round pick. wait there is more... rights to a three month access to hakeem olajuwon. If they want to work on their post moves with him or just follow him around to learn how to unbeeetable, that can be up to them.
Why give up Lowry to the Lakers for anything other than Kobe and why would the Lakers give us Kobe for anything, period. Lowry's name should not even be mentioned. That is just asinine.
I'm as big a proponent of the original trade as anyone. And while I'd be more hesitant of the same trade today due to the Knicks sucking, I still believe Gasol would shore up our defense. So I still like him a lot. But Lowry is IMO untouchable for anyone not named Dwight Howard. I probably won't even trade him for DWill. The reason is simple. Lowry is making ~$6mil for the next 2 1/2 years. It makes Lowry one of the most underpaid player in the entire NBA compared to his production. It will allow the Rockets to overpay for other 2nd/3rd tier stars to put them closer to the top.
Acquiring Lowry is the Rox player that remotely makes sense. K-Mart can only play SG and Kobe has that on lock. That said they are not going to give Gasol away even at this stage of his career.
From ESPN Trade machine Houston gets Gasol Milwaukee gets Martin/Scola LA Lakers get Jennings/SJax/Drew Gooden Houston gets the covetted Gasol. LA gets their covetted PG, and some vets to help replace Gasol's productivity, and to backup Bynum. Milwaukee gets Scola, who will play perfectly next to a productive C like Bogut, and the ideal (consistant) long-range threat like Martin. Martin won't need to play defense because of Bogut.
Guys Woj reported that Morey is NOT going to trade Lowry. I doubt that is going to change. More than likely Morey will be looking at 3 way trades involving Martin/Scola with either one of those two guys going to a team that can bring the Lakers back a quality PG. So what are some teams that could use Martin, but have a quality PG to give the Lakers- -Wolves - Barea- doubtful unless the Wolves gave up Beasley to the Lakers as well -Bucks - Jennings - Seems to be on the radar as of lately wanting out from up north. Could be a surprise name in trade talks. Bucks will want alot coming back. More than Martin. -Sixers - Holiday/or Williams - ?? -Clippers - Mo Williams - Would LA dare to deal with their new rival in Cali?? -Bobcats- DJ Augustine - intriguing. Martin is on Team Jordan anyways, and Kemba Walker seems to be the waiting on Augustine to be traded anyways. -Raptors- Calderon- ?? - doubt the Lakers really view him as the "answer"
PG and C are the 2 hardest positions to build on. We can't give away Lowry in a package unless we get a legit superstar/borderline all-star in return. Pau Gasol isn't that. They will give away Pau if they can get Lowry/Scola in return. They don't want KMart.
What if the Lakers offer picks and prospects to make the deal more attractive? What if it is Gasol, Morris (a PG), their 1st round pick, and the Dallas 1st rounder for Scola, Lowry and contract fillers. I'd still say no, but interested what everyone else thought -- because that would be quite a haul, and would be hard to say no to?
Also saves MIL $2M and we keep Lowry & Dragic! Houston: Lowry/Dragic/Flynn Lee/Budinger Parsons/Morris/Williams Gasol/Patterson Dalembert/Hill/Thabeet
