Bad argument. TWill says bad things about EVERY coach. That said, I agree that second guessing McHale's coaching decision isn't very productive. You can do that to any coach. You have to look at the coach's whole body of work.
Frankly, I doubt that the coaching staff has all of a sudden lost the team after going 9-2 in the last 11 games. The players are simply trying to think of what could have been done when they were interviewed. If the coaches have lost the team, we will see very quickly in the results.
I hope you people don't forget that we had the EXACT same posts and threads about Adelman the last years, so don't wish for him to come back now.
Adelman was like a guy on crack in my mind. He might have been able to coach back in his days with the Kings and Blazers but those end of close games where we lost all last season and previous, the man clearly coached like he was under the influence. He's only up there these days based on past notoriety but is no longer that great imo.
Ironically, this describes RA exactly. There were sooo many people b****ing and moaning during the RA years that he never would call a timeout to stymie the momentum of another team or adjust personnel if we were being killed. I think you ought to change your name to DramaDakota.
Look, I'm a big fan of Adelman and I consider him to be a top10 coach ever. But it is extremely short-sighted to diss McHale for what he tried to do. I understand why he didn't try to double Beasley. I think Adelman would've done the same thing, i.e. nothing special to stop Beasley. First, Beasley isn't a very consistent shooter, so it's a safe bet to let him shoot, lose his touch, go cold and shoot Minny out of the game. It happened in this season too, so it's not something that cannot happen again. Second, doubling him is easier said than done. He has the skills of a tweener and he is not an awful passer either when he isn't trying something completely impossible. So, doubling him up is essentially giving someone an open look. One can argue that by not doubling him, you give up less expected points than when you double.
I didn't see the post game. What did Lowry say? I have noticed that he has been giving McHale an attitude on the sidelines for a few weeks now. A couple of F bombs with those big pouty lips.
It's on the players' shoulders to adjust. Are they robots? Couldn't they offer any suggestions in the coaching huddles? If (and it's a big IF--Feigen may be reading too much into it) KL was calling out the coaches, it is his recent play that is dragging this team down. He should be the one making the adjustments. He couldn't stop Rubio at all tonight. All I could see when he couldn't get his shots or the foul calls was his frustration.
BTW Beasley was on fire against us last year. Maybe no coincidence? Adelman remembered the matchup problems he caused and did it again to his former team? If so, how is it McHale's fault? I mean Adelman is clearly a better coach than Kurt effin Rambis right? Maybe it's a roster deficiency then?
http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201104130MIN.html That's the game I was referring in my last post. Chase outscored and outefficiented him that game, but Beasley put up some big numbers. (He wasn't as ridiculously efficient as he was yesterday.)
Feigen gives his thoughts on the players speaking out about the lack of adjustmets: http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...-for-blowout-loss-oh-theyll-be-adjusting-now/ He says one of two things happened. Either adjustments/instructions were not provided yesterday, or they were given but the players did not implement them well. Either way, after today's video session it will be much clearer what went wrong and what needs to be done next time.
McHale talks about the loss last night: http://www.nba.com/rockets/video/2012/01/31/ZOOM0002MOV-1984415/index.html
Interesting. Thanks. McHale mentioned that there was frustration/discontent in the huddle by everyone and some finger pointing by the guys. Lets hope they use the furstration positively. In any case, at least we don't have Portland's problem: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=214114&highlight=chemistry
Well, Looks like McHale has gotten the Rockets to a point that Rick couldn't do all last season, which is homecourt in the first round so far....
McHale is probably doing the best with what he's got. Lowry recently stunk it up for several games. Now Martin acts like he's never touched a basketball. Scola plays well sometimes but he looks like he's in slow motion, more so than usual; the energy is lacking. Parsons plays well then badly then okay. Budinger woke up from a deep trance. JHill plays one game with his hair on fire and the next he rediscovers a pre-game meal of Black Eyed Pea chicken fried steak and ganja. Not that McHale is great. Last night I was screaming at the TV, Take Martin OUT of the game! Take Scola OUT of the game! He leaves certain rotations in there too long. You can SEE when the other team is going to go on an 11-1 run, you can SEE it. Everybody but McHale can see it.
Yeah, it took him a while to recognize that Portland had gone small and he left Luis in when Parsons matched up better, which cost us a 10 pt lead in the 3rd....but he finally got it right in the end. DD
