85 pound dog... Let me put my face near his mouth. She had it coming. If a dog shows teeth, they usually growl too, and she ignored it.
What part of parents can't be there 100% of the time don't you understand? You've never heard a dog growl or bark before? Ummm....ok.
Parents should be with a 2 year old 100% of the time. Unless the kid is in something protective. (craddle, pen, highchair) ...and even then they should be near. ..but, I guess leaving a 2 year old to play in the floor with dogs while you run out to get some Boones Farm is cool. Whatever, it's your kid.
Moving your face in towards a dogs face especially if there is eye contact can be seen as a challenge to the dog, and if the anchor moves her moth towards the dog's face it's reasonable to think a dog who wasn't familiar with the person would expect a bite and want to protect itself. The dog should not be put down because of a misunderstanding. Unless someone has evidence that the behavior is habitual for the dog, I don't see a reason to put it down.
Who puts their face that close to a random dog? It needs to be evaluated because of this incident, not put down because of it.
I work in a business where I see many different parents and toddlers every single day. Parents leave their kids to wander ALL THE TIME. I imagine if you have children you've probably done it as well. It happens. All beside the point. The dog is the issue here. If THREE adults including the owner can't see it coming, then that dog is dangerous. Having said that, I'm stunned the newswoman and the owner were so careless here.
This. You should never put your face near a dog's unless you are incredibly familiar with them and know their temperment. Hell one of my own dogs is a total sweetheart, but he gets royally pissed if anyone puts their face in his. You just don't do it. This lady obviously knows nothing about dogs, or is just a moron.
Dog is in an unfamiliar setting with lights and cameras and whatnot, so I think that's a mitigating factor. The dog is bound to be more nervous. I'd give him a pass. Besides, the dog was just rescued from an icy lake; it'd be terrible PR for the news show to have the dog killed now. But, I think only the first bite is free. If the dog has a record for biting or does it again in the future, put him down.
Exactly. Have an expert determine if the dog's actually a threat, don't judge based solely on a video of a dumb lady (that probabyl doesn't have dogs or has crappy dogs like jack russles).
The owner may have seen it coming, but there could have been a pause in reaction time if the owner is in disbelief that woman who doesn't know the dog at all is going to invade the dog's space with her face. Sometime an owner might see it coming but in such shock that they can't react. The dog isn't at fault here.
