Are there any sites people recommend for getting national news. Now that I have more spare time with my easier schedule, and time to burn during my lunch breaks, I'm curious what are some of the better not overly biased news sites available. I can't stand any of the TV networks.
My problem is I mainly read CATO articles, and although I enjoy them I want to get more non partisan views of things.
NYTimes is your best bet - their coverage and analysis of anything and everything is far and away the best you'll find. Also, The Economist, but I think you need a paid subscription to access most of their stuff. It's great analysis though. WSJ as well, although again I think you need a subscription. Instead of finding multiple conventional news outlets, I would stick with the Times and read blogs. For liberal political analysis, check out Ezra Klein, Matthew Yglesias and Glenn Greenwald. For conservatives, Ross Douthat (also a columnist at the Times), Greg Mankiw, the Economist's Free Exchange blog. For general interest / political coverage, The Economist's Democracy in America blog, Marginal Revolution and ThinkProgress. If you're interested in long-form articles that aren't necessarily breaking news, but cover stories of great interest, check out thebrowser.com - they compile the best / most interesting articles each day. Really can't recommend that site enough. Also magazines such as Slate, Salon, Vanity Fair, GQ, Rolling Stones etc all have great material online and obviously in print.
