According to the Wikipedia page, Damon was originally attached, but when the original director, Paul Greengrass, said he wasn't interested, Damon said he wasn't interested in doing Bourne without Greengrass. So it seems a future Damon appearance is dependent on Greengrass changing his mind about directing a future sequel.

Though not in the trailer, looking forward to Joan Allen in the new one (she's one of my favorite actresses). And Rachel Weisz (yum). Plus, I understand Straithairn and Scot Glenn are also in this one. Should be very good. Too bad Julia Stiles isn't in it (one of my odd guilty pleasures).

I'm gonna have a hard time thinking this is a Bourne movie with Matt Damon. Why couldn't they just brand this as another spy/thriller movie and left the series alone.

Simple answer is money, name recognition is huge for studios because there is a much higher chance they'll make money as opposed to it just being a random spy thriller with characters and mythos nobody is familiar with.

The original with Richard Chamberlin (Shogun) is still the best

Just feels wrong not seeing Matt in it.

I'll give it a try. Hope it is good....kind of like Spartacus.

From the most recent preview, it seems like (just a guess here)

Jason Bourne bringing down Treadstone and Black Briar sets off a series of events where the CIA decides to terminate other projects, mainly the one Jeremy Reiner is in. So yeah, it probably has some victimization element to it, like a Mission Impossible disavowed theme...not the most creative, but still good if done right.

Whoa. Just to say: your parenthetical notations are pretty much exactly my internal monologue about each actress.

Joan Allen, ever since she touched the tiger's fang in Manhunter.

Rachel Weisz, pretty much defines "yum."

Too bad the studio wells ran dry on producing more stories about interracial dating / "Hey, what would Shakespeare look like in Midtown Manhattan?" adaptation-type movies. Loves me some Julia Stiles.

    Good taste.

As for Bourne, as long as someone kills someone else using an everyday office/household item, I'll give it a shot, Damon or no. (I'm really hoping NotBourne uses a stapler, and/or stapler remover, to take out the guy with the Uzi in this one. Fingers crossed.)

I can deal with them focusing on another agent and replacing Matt Damon as the lead. However, they also switched directors (Paul Greengrass to Tony Gilroy), which is why Damon bailed. The Bourne films had the most amazing action scenes. There were a couple of car chases, the fight in the apartment, and the subway scene that are some of the best action scenes I've watched. I fear this film will lose that edge and wind up being a meh standard action flick. At least they have a top notch cast to prop it up.

I wish Nolan would hire Greengrass to help film and choreograph his action scenes.
