Are we witnessing the spontaneous combustion of culture war / racist politics? I'm an outsider here, but I have to imagine the majority of the country looks at these Republican candidates, and these Republican primaries, with a fair about of disgust...right?

As boring as Mitt is, and as unlikable as Gingrich is, and as overly idealistic as Paul is... having Santorum carry any banners for the Republican party is a national disgrace.

He combines the ineptitude of Rick Perry, the aloofness of Romney, the nastiness of Gingrich, and the bats**t crazy of Bachmann. An all around terrible candidate.

A big problem for true-blue L-ibretarians like Jo Mama is that L. Ron, in his various conversations with Xenu and the founding fathers, has lashed himself to the idea of the sacred unchanging Constitution. Aside from the fact that the Fou-Fa's themselves didn't necessarily believe this or think we should anchor ourselves with their opinions, that very same sacred text pretty much ensures that the deck is stacked against minority parties (especially with the way the modern political system has developed), and constitutional amendment is more or less physically impossible this day & age, due in part to the hyper-outdated amendment process. Nice little catch 22.

These primaries are just showing how necessary reform is in the GOP. The fact that Santorum is getting any support is a joke, and I pray by 2016 the party can get it together.

This man just won three contests for a major US political party:

Yes, we either believe or we don't. It is just tough luck if you happen to be a "compassionate case" and not someone who can afford $1,000,000.00 per year in drug costs for your kid. Sucks to be you, but hey, you could have inherited your wealth or worked on Wall Street. That was your choice and now your son will suffer. Again, nothing I can do, as we either believe in the markets or we don't. I do believe very much, so vote for me to return American values to America. Thank you and God bless America.

You cannot be a compassionate person and support the profit motive in medicine.

It's not that shocking. Even Pat Robertson won 4 states in 1988.

Does anyone else think Pawlenty made a huge mistake dropping out as early as he did? It seems like he would fit perfectly right now as the not-Romney guy without being as crazy as either Gingrich or Santorum.

Considering he couldn't even help Romney get a second place showing in MN no.

In a party where Santorum and Gingrich are legitimate contenders shows that Pawlenty wouldn't have fared much better than Romney.

Yes and no, as he is definitely, to the best of my knowledge, NOT Mitt Romney, he fits the primary criteria of being a not-Romney. However, the presence of too many serious not-Romney's at one time splinters the various riff-raff who make up the primary voters so much that people who actually are Romneys don't get dealt the embarrassing, defeats that cause the media to snowball the not-Romney phenomenon.

Pawlenty isn't as gaffe prone or as goofy as Romney but he also isn't an ideological pure conservative. He is also gives Huntsman a run for excitement and he didn't leave MN in very good shape.

I don't know why people are so upset about Rick Santorum's primary wins last night. I think he'd make a great Pope.
