I really enjoyed the Santo when I tried it recently. I happen to enjoy most all of the St. Arnold's beers. Maybe it's "overhyped" by people who are happy to have a Houston beer. I don't know...but I like them Lawnmower is my favorite thing to drink on a hot day.

    This.

I'm shocked Houston doesn't have more. St. Arnold is OK (I rate most of their beers a 3 out of 5 on the ratebeer scale). - which I guess is slightly above average, but for a craft brewery is probably slightly below.

Caveat - I haven't had any of their divine reserve ones, which have pretty high ratings from most who have tasted them, but not super-high like some of the top craft brewers.

Not sure where the line lies but I'm pretty sure it's south of Boston Beer co's billion dollar market cap.

Karbach is a really good brewery, but they've just started bottling their stuff. The Karbach Black IPA is the first unique new beer that I've had in a long time, and it's really good.

    Saint Arnold's seasonals are good.

Ommegang should have been on there.

Agree that the 6MM thing seems stupidly arbitrary.

it doesn't matter how much they're worth as long as they're under 6 million barrels they qualify.

    craft brewery defined

    cool site: http://www.craftbeer.com/

    edit: 6 million barrels

There's a new brewery in Houston -- Buffalo Brewery. Started by another Rice guy (not Brock Wagner). Check it out -- they just started production and it's available at the Flying Saucer. I'm tight with the founder...tell 'em bigtexxx sent ya

That's a silly number though, it basically means "Everybody except for Diageo, MillerSAB, ABInbev, Grupo Modelo, Heineken, Tsingtao"

edit - you meant 6 million.

Southern Star up in Conroe is another new local brewery. I really like their Bombshell Blonde as a good crossover beer from the Buds and Millers into a craft brew and also tried their seasonal Le Mort Vivant, which was really good too.

Bombshell blonde is great, but their other stuff blows chunks IMO.

And whoever thinks St. Arnold is mediocre needs to get their head checked.

Amber, Brown, Elissa, and Lawnmower are all great beers. That's not even counting the holy grail that is Christmas Ale, or their limited batch brews, which are typically fantastic. The rest of them kind of suck, but any brewery that bats at their clip isn't average in my book. Pretty sure they've got the medals on the wall to show for it, too.

That is a function of few reviews and limited releases. The harder something is to get, the better reviewers seem to think it tastes.

Before your use of the word "great" gets panties in wads, let's just qualify it with SA brews are very reasonably priced, and widely available here.

How many of y'all made it out to Beer Fest this year? I didn't have anything new that blew my socks off. Santo was probably the only new beer I discovered in 2011 and continued to like.

Hi, take any horrific pictures lately?

My guess, probably. Perhaps you should start another thread asking for criticism then cry when you get it. ltr
