His name is Dragić, so the Suns spelled his name correctly.

    LOL - no kidding.

The don't show up apparently in advanced metrics either.

The Rockets track defensive breakdowns, shot contests, deflections. I don't know if those things count as "advanced" (every NBA team tracks those things), but Parsons would do very well by those stats.

If you understand what PER is measuring, Bud is supposed to have a higher PER than Parsons. He's a better offensive player.

PER is a useful tool, but doesn't tell the whole story. I view it kind of like OPS/wOBA in baseball. You still have to consider position, defense, the things it doesn't measure. But it tells you part of the story.

Yes, I know all that, but whenever the discussion is brought up, PER is used as some sort of hammer to end debate.

You know I don't value PER at all Durv.....I think a trained eyeball is much more important.

What does your defensive stat show on these two, Durvasa?

You don't need defensive stats to see that Parsons is a much better defender, he is much quicker laterally and that helps a ton.

It's used as a hammer on you in particular because you have an affinity for offense-only 1-dimensional types, which seduce your untrained eye and cause you to make idiotic pronouncements, such as

"I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE AND ITS NAME IS DAN LANGHI!"
    "
"VON IS PUTTING IT TOGETHER WITH HIS LEBRON-LEVEL ATHLETICISM"

or "AARON BROOKS - THERE'S YOUR ALPHA DOG FRANCHISE PLAYER!"

Then you'll cite a few stats to prove your case, and go on and on about how productive they are, basically. These stats of course, roll up to PER, which is largely inferior for most of your one-trick show poinies, because your untrained eye has deceived you.

This is doubly embarrassing for you because when even your Parade of Busts can't come out looking good in an offense-biased metric like PER (which doesn't account for man defense) , your profoundly untrained eye looks all them more worse than it is

...the most embarrassing part comes when your franchise players end up plying their trade in pro basketball purgatory, taking tramp steamers to shanghai and riding ox-carts to Thessalonika.

Bud seems to play better with fewer minutes.

Perhaps he is best as an 8th man.

    Oh come on.

If anything, you used PER as a hammer to end debate when Hollinger used it to praise Bud's defense. If your favorite players had a consistently high PER then you wouldn't be trashing on the stat.

As far as I'm concerned, everyone here who takes PER into account as a useful stat (not some holy Basketball stat that answers everything) takes into account that it is just one stat. It's also a flawed stat because it undervalues a player's defense.

I mean, I don't recall any threads or posters in the last couple of months that used stressed the definitive nature of PER. If anything, I only recall people stating that PER undervalues defense.

Do you really want to go there and start explaining what the context was around some of your past "trained eyeball" evaluations? This is from the thread you started titled "Langhi = Tom Chambers" later immortalized in the "Clutchfans classic moments" widget...

Why don't we toss you in that briar patch then....was this actually an elaborate joke and we're missing the context of your "trained eyeball"?

Bud needs to keep his ass on that bench. The second unit needs all the offensive help they can get.

Yep, I liked Langhi, thought he could develop into something nice, has nothing to do whatsoever with the topic at hand.

I was wrong about Langhi, and Fizer too, liked him as well - it happens.

Maybe, but the first unit needs some too.....especially with Lowry struggling, but if he is out of his funk now, then not so much.

Just an up and down season for everyone I guess.
