your being pretty vague in what your wanting to do. but carmelos downtown is a nice italian place. bill will be right at 100 for two people.

and then downtown there is a alamo drafthouse, a pretty cool place to watch a movie if you are wanting to do something like that.

if you havent been downtown before you could just walk all the way up 5th and back down 6th st. and there is the warehouse district very close by also. should be a lot of people because acl after it ends around 11ish things should start kicking.

during the day downtown there is a art museum. not sure what is there right now. that would something a little dif maybe.

also during acl there are a ton of aftershows. so if there is a band you like playing today or sunday you could see if there playing somewhere so you could check out that specific group or singer.

    hope that helps

    mexican:
    chuy's is crap
trudy's is crap but better than chuy's
curra's is decent, but it's in the middle of a crappy area for austin standards
guero's or matt's el rancho is the best for mexican.

    bbq:
    rudy's never disappoints
salt lick is an experience if you have the time
county line is alright, i guess

whole foods hq on 6th/lamar if you can't make up your mind
for a badass place downtown with a $15-20/entree budget, try moonshine.
same budget for indian - go to clay pit
same budget for italian - go to romeo's
lunch - best burgers ever are at either hut's or p. terry's
24 hours - kerbey lane (but it will take forever to get food no matter which location you go to), try magnolia cafe (multiple locations- i like lake austin)

coffee/dessert - go to halcyon (downtown), or chez zee (2222/mopac)

    you're welcome! ;)

Near the Capitol? Coreanos at 16th and Congress is a trailer thingy on the street for lunch that serves Korean/Mexican stuff that is great. Sorta like soft tacos with a Korean influence. The Jalopy Rotisserie & Press at 15th and San Antonio is another good sandwich trailer. There's Scholz Garten on San Jacinto, but the beer is better than the food. You can always trek over to Red River and munch down on some good Italian at the Brick Oven. Serrano's is nearby and has good lunch deals. Those are a few possibilities within walking distance.

Fri they have some special. It's like a $40 pork chop or something but its only 12 bucks on fri lunch. I went to some Thai place last week that was across the st and he told me to check it out.

remember I need things close to the capitol. I dont like to take more than 45 minutes for lunch...even though people in my office sometimes go for like 2.5 hours.

I am not a huge thundercloud fan, but I heard there was one on Lavaca or something. It's a future option if I need something less fatty. I guess I really should be eating healthier...both my sisters asked if I had gained weight when I visited last weekend : ( haha

I used to eat at the one on Guad a lot when I was in school. However, two of my friends got sick after eating the shrimp tacos on two seperate occasions and now I just never feel like eating there.

Anyone been to Clay Pit? Isn't there like a cheap day buffet? I've had Indian food maybe like 3 times, I liked whatever it was I had, but what do yall recommend trying?
Funny story abt indian food: my cousin was making indian food from scratch, at the end of dinner he asked me what my favorite dish was. i was like mannnnn this bread is so good, i could it eat it all day. he was like thanks, i bought it at the store...

    repped.

If you want breakfast/brunch and are into the old school, "weird" Austin scene, go to Bouldin Creek Cafe. You might spot a low-key celebrity there too.
