Says they must provide insurance plans with contraception coverage. Don't know how I feel about this. On one hand you can say get another job, on another hand are church's that have "businesses" exempt from laws in that business. can't believe there hasn't been a thread on this
Fine by me, institutional organized religion is completely wrong on this issue from a public health and common sense standpoint, so put the screws to them to the extent that the Supreme Court will allow you too.
Are you guys not concerned at the 1st Amendment implications? Regardless of what you think about the Catholic church, or contraception, the HHS is saying you might have a vision for how your institutions are to be run, but we have a different vision and you have to follow it. I mean they are making the church sponsored organizations pay for plan B, something the church holds to be an abortifacient. What the What? And this isn't about a fire code, or the use of illegal drugs. These are beliefs at the heart of our teachings on human sexuality.
who's first admendment rights are being violated. what about a woman who wants to work for a catholic institution but can't have access to birth control. what if the catholic church banned anyone they caught using birth control.
As stated, BC isn't just used for contraception. For some women, it's the only way to treat severe cramping and abdominal pain. This isn't about the church being against contraception, it's about an employer interfering with the doctor/patient relationship.
So you are saying a church run organization has to pay out of their pocket for her birth control (if not used for certain medical reasons, which by the way the church allows)? That doesn't make sense at all. And under freedom of religion, the church very well could ban anyone they caught using birth control, it's the freaking 1st Amendment! Luckily, that doesn't happen.

I can't believe you guys are in favor of this, especially with all the support on here for separation of church and state.
Nobody is forcing the doctor or patient to take the BC, only that the employer must insure the option. Not all employees of Christian hospitals/schools are Christian. These institutions already enjoy tax incentives/exceptions... I don't see why they should be allowed to interfere with a doctor/patient relationship and medications necessary for a happy/healthy life.

The church is being forced to support it. That's the whole freaking point. The church has said that plan B and contraception are not in its vision of healthcare. Now they have to pay for it for their employees. Redonk!
