Shane Battier is "stressed out" about his offense!

MIAMI – Shane Battier is stressed out. It’s visible in his stats, on his face and in his game.

Battier’s experience since signing with the Heat two months ago – and that carefree day must feel longer ago to him – hasn’t been pleasant. He is mired in one of the worst shooting slumps of his career while playing a most visible role. Over the last few games, he’s clearly starting to press.

On Monday, after Battier slipped toward rock bottom after a 0-of-4 shooting effort Sunday against the Toronto Raptors, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra met with him. Even 33-year-old strong-minded veterans need pep talks sometimes. Battier looks and sounds like he certainly did.

Battier is shooting 31 percent from 3-point range and 31 percent on 2-pointers too. This is simply not what anyone expected when he was the Heat’s prime offseason pickup. He’s been solid on defense but his offensive struggles have seen his playing time and aggressiveness erode.

Why wasn't he stressed out when he was with us??? He cost us many games when he couldn't make wide open jumpers? Now he's on a contending team he's stressed out?

And why didn't JVG or Adelman have meetings with this guy to discuss his poor offense?

EDIT: oops sorry clutch, this may have to go into NBA Dish!!!

I don't have any statistics to back it up, just pure speculation, but he wasn't THAT bad offensively when he was with us. He wasn't a scorer but he held his own. However he seemed to have gotten worse and worse each year and maybe he's finally realizing he's hitting rock bottom and is frustrated at the self realization that he sucks.

Plus I think JVG and Adelman was better at hiding and compensating for his offensive deficiencies. Spo, not so much.

It's ironic that with a team with that much offensive fire power Battier is concerned about his offense. I don't think he ever struggled here that badly but that's the biggest difference between a post dominant offense wide open 3 point shot as opposed to a guard/perimeter 3 pointer with a guy in your face.

Yes, this is easily one of his worst years ever offensively. But I'm just talking about a sense of urgency in regards to his offense. When he was with us, he never had that.

As a Rocket, Battier did cost us many games with his inability to hit WIDE OPEN jumpers repeatedly over several seasons. If he had a sense of urgency to improve his jumpshot when he was in a slump or improve certain aspects of his offensive game, it would have helped us out greatly.

He hit around 40% on threes while he was here, I believe.

He was probably "stressed" then too, thing is now he's on a team that gets coverage.

Isn't the simple answer that he's slumping worse now than he ever has, hence him being more "stressed out" than usual?

Battier was an efficient offensive player overall for the Rockets. Very low usage, but also efficient. In Miami, he's low usage and very low efficiency.

How about he's just showing his age and wear and tear from all those years of ridiculous effort?

He didn't need to prove anything while he was here making him way too comfortable. Introduce a little incentive to perform and he will be "stressed out" and push himself to do well. Bud too was getting too comfortable until McHale gave him incentive to push himself instead of going partying every night.

What Morey needs to find are players with a winner mentality. People like Thabeet, Hill and Bud do not posess this mentality, they get comfy too quickly. You have to get someone with the black mamba attitude, who competes every night and sees losing as the end of the world. We definitely have this in Klow, but a lot of the others are not like this.

When he was on a team that's 29th out of 30 teams in attendance, nobody was watching him. He could hide, since there were 28 other teams getting much more attention than the Rockets.

Now that he is on the Miami Heat, he can't hide anymore.

The Rockets were never 29th in attendance when Battier was on the team.

He is the smartest player in the NBA. He is not your average player. He has more important things to do in his life.

I still remember the 3point shot against the Lakers few seasons ago(the season we got the 22 game win streak), so not sure what you are talking about him costing Rockets many games, besides, he's always known as a defensive specialist, how he made life difficult for Kobe, Wade, Lebron, etc.

And what makes you think he wasnt stressed out about his offensive weakness when he was with the Rockets? Just because it wasnt reported? Also ditto for JVG and RA talking to him about it, did you check back all the documented Rockets press releases and was sure those werent reported? What is the point of your thread?

I say "YAAYY" he's sucking playing for Queen James's team. i hope the Queen doesnt win a ring in the NBA. All bets are off then he goes over to WNBA though....
