I grew with the older stuff like George Strait, Garth Brooks, Randy Travis, Dolly Parton and John Denver in the house. I can appreciate the older stuff and even like some songs here and there. But I guess I'm more into the newer stuff.

    Eli Young Band is awesome.
Also like Lady Antebellum, Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift and Dixie Chicks.

Country died when Faith Hill and Shania Twain became popular.

Mix and R and B stations began playing them and everything since has been country/pop crap.

Someone else hit it on the head, it's just pop with a country accent and maybe a steel guitar thrown in there somewhere.

Listen to crap like Faith Hill - This Kiss - (bubblegum pop BS)

    Then listen to:

Doug Supernaw - Lady's a Lot like Reno
Sawyer Brown - All These Years
    Shenandoah - Two Dozen Roses

and tell me which sounds like country.

I don't like the entire genre, I just like some songs.

And nearly all of them are really just pop anyway come to think of it.

I've never considered myself a country fan, but I do like the older outlaw stuff: Willie, Waylon, Johnny Cash, Merle, all 3 Hanks, David Allan Coe, etc. A lot of that stuff is more folksy-bluesy than virtually anything that most people consider to be "country."

These guys are just HUGE right now, but they are the perfect example of what's wrong with country music these days. I mean, they have some decent ballads, but I have a hard time associating country music with designer jeans and frosted tips.

Oh, you mean you are bothered by them being entertainers, and having a majority of people liking what they do?

    ;)

I don't mind any of the new or old stuff, a good song is a good song.

Country music is actually quite good IMO. Just as long as it's not too twangy. What can I say, I like the cheesiness

One of the greatest songs of the last 50 years in any genre of music:

I still think it's hilarious that people consistently believe a song's popularity is an argument in favor of that song.

I think that error in logic should be called the "Nickelback Fallacy."

Don't worry DD, I know you feel an obsessive compulsive need to reply to everyone who replies to you.

yeah, rascal flatts are freakin terrible. i can't stand that group. i really can't find one redeeming value to any of their music. i'm sorry.

it's the same reason i can't stand keith urban and kenny chesney. i never liked them.

Wow....no mention of Alabama? I'm kinda partial to the late 80's early 90's bands like Kentucky Headhunters,Confederate Railroad,Pirates of the Mississippi etc as well as some from the 70's like Eddie Rabbit and Johnny Lee.Also love the groups like Alabama,Restless Heart and Sawyer Brown.
