it depends on what the market is for the pick. The problem here is the top 5 protection, considering the Knicks have been playing below 0.500 against the softest part of their schedule I dunno how they're gonna perform against the playoff teams.

If all you're gonna get for the pick is Chris Kaman's expiring contract I'd rather just keep it. Who knows, maybe we end up the 9th team in the west and end up with the 6th and 14th pick in the draft.

True. However, he has back spasms and a herniated discs. He was supposed to come back against the Rockets.

Now, they say it's pushed back indefinitely(e.g. no time table for his return.).

There are only 2.5 months left in the season for him to make an impact. If he comes back next month, there isn't much of a season left.

    Hope for Better Picks

I feel you on that. 6th is just too risky with a 1/5 chance and as I said they had a top 3 pick the last 3 years. Give it a one pick cushion. ;)

I have a good general grasp on how probability works. My hopes are more realistic with the Knicks having the 8th worse record with a 10% to be top 3 than with them have the 6th worse with a 21% chance!:p Besides that's trusting the NBA has a fair legit lottery system. Who actually oversees it when the computer simulations are going? Stern? An outside nonpartison entity? Cleveland winning the lottery with the Clipper's pick could be a smoke screen because it happened after losing LeBron one season ago.

I don't think the Rockets will have the 14th pick again. Seems some lottery teams (Utah, Minnesota) have caught up to the Rockets. Rockets will have the 12th or 13th pick from their record. Knicks will be in the 8th-11th range (Golden State, Phoenix, Cleveland/Milwaukee). And what if New Jersey gets Dwight Howard? Orlando probably still makes the playoffs and New Jersey will surpass the Knicks pushing it to 7th-10th.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the Ama're Stoudemire family. His brother was killed in a brutal car crash.

I've lost a friend to a car crash, and life goes on, but with less enjoyment.

Damn, I really feel for Amar'e. May he be able to be with his family and recover quickly. I'd be chest deep in a fifth if that was me.

[rQUOTEr]Baron Davis' "setback" was an infected elbow, which caused pain in back. Says his back is OK otherwise. No timeline for Baron to resume practicing, but probably not this week.[/rQUOTEr]

[rquoter]The earliest Knicks guard Baron Davis could return to action is next week, but even that's not likely, a source said.[/rquoter]

    Baron Davis is a hack.
He hasnt shot an acceptable % in YEARS
    He is never healthy
    He is a cancer
    He does not defend

Not worried at all about him helping the Knicks.

    Last year Davis did what?

Shoot an acceptable %: NOPE.. 42%, and 41% for his CAREER
Stay healthy: NOPE.. played 58 games
He is a cancer: YUP.. ask the Clippers
He does not defend: YUP.. never has defended

All Davis does is give the Knicks false hope. The guy is a horrible shooter, he misses huge chunks of games, does not run the offense as instructed by his coaches, he does not defend and is shot happy... which will go GREAT with Amare and Melo.

He has not been a good player in years.

The thing about the Knicks PG situation is that a "not good player" would be a pretty big upgrade on their rotation.

You have a point... but even as bad as their point situation is, I don't know that having Baron Davis on the IR or shooting 39% is going to make much difference... if anything his "promise" may keep them from dealing for someone that can help them.

I'm no doctor (for a few more months), but isn't an infected elbow, that causes in the back, simply another name for an infected back?

Again, I know nothing about the situation besides this, but he might be on IV antibiotics for a while.

I am actually more worried about Jeremy Lin than Baron Davis. Davis still can't play.

Lin was named starting PG. Unless the Jazz scouts have already spotted Lin's weak left hand, this could be a win for the Knicks.

Last year with the Cavs he shot 42% from the field and 41% from three, which is phenomenal and Kevin Martin esque.

He has always put up an outstanding assist to turnover. He is incredibly intelligent and his impact on games is monstrous, especially when he is motivated, and ESPECIALLY when he is in a running system.

In New Orleans and LA his coaches had him walk the ball up. In Golden State, Nelson expected him to create and make plays based around isolations and pick and rolls, just like Dantoni's offense.

The Knicks can't make moves regardless. They have no talent outside their big 3 and they have no salary outside the big 3(the latter to absorb a crappy contract). We also own their 1st round pick. They are screwed if their current core doesn't turn it around.

If only the Knicks hadn't made the Jeffries trade, they'd actually still have some room to maneuver right now. How ironic that Walsh continued Isiah's tradition of giving away lottery picks.

Either way, I hope you're right.

Hopefully Baron and Jeremy suck balls...

Carmelo just went to the locker room. Looked like a groin injury.
