Man, this is so true. There isn't much music America can really claim as it's own anymore. Can't do it with jazz anymore. Can't do it with the blues anymore. But you can still do it with traditional country.

I have a hard time believing a real country artist is going to emerge from Europe any time soon. If so, it will probably end up sounding something like this....

nice to see someone finally mention Jamey Johnson. if your interests run to the outlaw vein, he should be on your shortlist.

Nice... both good, hope they roll through town.

I am surprised so one mentioned... Miss Patsy Cline.

I don't know if Country claims them at all, but Lyle Lovett and Lucinda Williams get some pretty regular airplay at my house and in my car.

Not really country, but it's Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert on vocals, Brad Paisley and John Fogerty playing guitar and a late appearance by Charlie Daniels and his fiddle:

both have jazz influences, not exactly traditional country. they blur the lines of what country is. but of course patsy cline had jazz leanings also so what do I know. even bob wills was doing jazz influenced country.

i tend to view traditional country requires a twang and has a sensibility to it, a point of view. jazz really can't capture it because jazz is more complicated music than real country.

Real country may be an American thing, but real music is from Europe.

I like Hank Williams Sr., but that's where the buck generally stops.

..I'm not sure what you're saying here, but if what you're saying is what I think you're saying, then you're an idiot.

That was awesome. Brad Paisley can really play, and Carrie Underwood sang with some grit that I've never heard before. Loved it.

I'm not going to say that this is quintessential country, but this is pretty good example of a decent new country song. Cowboy poetry at its best! couple bucks when i'm itchin for scratch off tickets. This song is my cousin made over.

I think a lot of old country is some of the best music ever made.

As for modern country I typically only like alt-country bands like the Futurebirds.

They sorta reminded me of this band: the FANTASTIC (and I mean FANTASTIC) Amazing Rhythm Aces: a memphis band I might add!

Anybody not in the know get hip to the Rhythm Aces:
