Let's assume for a moment that Morris has a big advantage as a post up SF, wouldn't a good coach be able to utilize that for the betterment of the team? Personally, I would rather see Morris start, and CBud relieve with Parsons as a defensive stopper if needed. DD
I think we just have too many 3rd (maybe 2nd) string SFs..none of which deserve to start. Parsons, Budinger, Morris, Twill...
Come on DD, you know that Parsons starting has helped us tremendously on defense. CBud, K-Mart, and Scola starting would be a nightmare to watch on defense. It's better to have K-Mart and Parsons or C-Bud and Lee. You won't be able to guard any wings with K-Mart and C-Bud.
I totally agree about that point. Your other arguments not so much, but your right here. They do have 3 SF's who have different skill sets, but equal talent. Obviously NBA players have ego, and can be sensative so I see how it can cause issues when these 3 or 4 guys think they "deserve" the starting spot. But to me, it just seems inevitable that they would feel this way, and it has nothing to do with the Rockets or McHale's lack of communication skills. The Rockets organization does needs to make a choice here pretty soon who they think could fill in holes in their game to be the most complete SF on the roster. They already decided against TWill for good reasons. Bud, I think, has holes in his game that just cant be made up with practice and offseason training unfortunately. Still think he's a solid player, but whoever starts at Small Forward for the Rockets has to make up for other deficiencies in the roster. Something Parson's has been able to do without contributing much on offense. It seems like pretty soon its going to be just Parsons/Morris fighting each other for the starting position which I am totally fine with. Budinger isnt the long term answer even though other teams could really value his scoring, and we all know TWill has already punched the clock.
Hell we can't guard anyone on the perimeter now....none of our guys....what would be the difference in having Morris in there? DD
He just said about a week ago that Parsons was now one of his favorite 3 players on the team. Now, here comes the flip flop. I understand where DD is going with this, and it does makes some sense when thought through, but we all know he has trouble giving up on an argument.
I like Parsons, love his hustle, doesn't mean I think he should start. I liked Ryan Bowen too.... Until Parsons is a credible offensive threat, I don't think he should be on the floor that much. DD
with our lack of defense at the 4, 3, and 2, wouldn't you rather have Parsons out there? And even though Bud seems to have found his shot of late, given his history of inconsistant shooting, how can you say he's any better than Parsons on that front? Bud averages 43% from the field over his career, and Parsons averages 42% over a much smaller sample size. Neither appear to be great shooters, so tell me again why Bud is a better start over Parsons?
I would rather Morris start, as I stated. I don't mind the Bud/Parsons combo, but IMO, this all gets back to the direction of the team I guess. Play the guys that you believe will help you in the future....NOW......get them some seasoning. Maybe that means it is Morris and Parsons and CBud gets traded, fine by me. I just believe that Morris should be in the mix, now. DD
Because Morris is not ready. Look, either way we are developing a rookie. You can't say "we have two rookies, one is in the D-league and the other is in the starting lineup. Let's bench the starter rookie and start the D-league rookie because the D-league rookie is a lottery pick, even though the starter rookie is currently ranked around the top amongst other rookies". If Bud was starting, and we benched him for Morris. That would make more sense, but Parsons is also a rookie. Benching him for another rookie just for the fun of it makes absolutely no sense. And what do you mean we can't guard perimeter players? Our defense has improved tremendously since last season. Lowry, and Parsons are getting it done.
Yes, but we don't see this guy in practice everyday. If people like parsons, twill and bud blow past him in practice what will happen when he is guarding starting-caliber SFs in the real game? If Morris is good enough to start, he will eventually. It always plays out, and most of the time talent does rise to the top.
the Rockets have a process when it comes to developing rookies, and it works. Aaron Brooks, Carl Landry, Chase Budinger, PP to name a few have developed nicely by working with our staff over the summer in summer leagues and the d-league. Why rush Morris into starting? He will become one dimensional. If all he can do is post up, then that is all he will do in the game. If Morris gets to go play the in the d-league, become more versatile and develop more skills and TEST those skills out in the d-league...then when he does come over to the Rockets he will be even better.
He would not be starting for Adelman, and he is greater than all those guys. And who is to say they are greater than me...certainly not me. DD
A personal theory of mine is that rookies they intend to keep, or "prized" are purposefully slowed down as a tactic to save cap space. I believe the Rockets slow them down and put them on a timeline that they take major steps forward just after thier RFA contract summer. I think it prevents them exploding just before they can go into free agency. Happened with both Lowry and Landry, and could very well happen with Patterson and Morris.
Marcus "Why Am I in the D-League" Morris Title pretty much explains it.. When will we put this guy on the roster, we already let Lin slip under our talent radar so why not let this guy have a shot. Can our defense really get that much worse? He seems to have a smooth game in the D-League and it will be interesting to see if he can transition it to NBA.
No, I am already authentic. Am hoping to see a consistent offensive player, I have high hopes for Marcus.
